Welcome to your live thread for the United States Women's National Team’s second game in the Tournament of Nations. The USWNT faces Brazil, so Alex Morgan and Ali Krieger could go up against Orlando Pride teammates Marta, Camila, and Monica tonight (8 p.m. ET, ESPN2). Krieger is two caps shy of 100 for her international career.

The U.S. has lost three consecutive games against top 10 FIFA competition on home soil this year after falling to No. 7 Australia, and now faces No. 8 Brazil, which drew Japan 1-1 on Thursday evening on a Camila blast in the 87th minute. The Yanks and the Canarinhas have met 34 previous times, with the USWNT going 26-3-5.

The United States hasn’t covered itself in glory of late. Although still capable of being one of the most formidable sides on the planet on any given day, the side has lost three times this year, compared to the same total of losses from 2001-2016 (h/t Paul Carr). The three-player back line didn’t work well in the SheBelieves Cup and the 4-4-2 didn’t look very good Thursday night. Friendlies are certainly the time to tinker, but it just seems like Jill Ellis is struggling to find the right combination of players and formation to push the team forward.

Pride star Marta is Brazil’s leader in caps (118) and goals (108). Canada is the chief rival of the U.S. in women’s international play but Brazil isn’t far behind. The teams have met in decisive matches through the years, including the 2004 and 2008 Olympic gold medal games — both won by the USWNT in extra time — and in the semifinals of the 2007 FIFA Women’s World Cup, which Brazil won. The United States also won via penalties in the quarterfinals of the 2011 FIFA Women’s World Cup after Abby Wambach tied Brazil in extra time.
