Orlando City B vs. Richmond Kickers: Match Preview and How to Watch

Orlando City B (5-6-10, 25 points) drew 2-2 with FC Cincinnati last weekend, recording the club’s sixth straight draw. Tonight, the young Lions travel to Virginia to face the last place Richmond Kickers (3-11-8, 17 points).

After defeating the Rochester Rhinos, 1-0, on June 23, OCB has gone on a run of six straight draws, extending its unbeaten streak to seven. Two of those draws resulted in 1-1 finals and three in scoreless draws, before the young Lions netted two last Saturday night. It appeared as though Hadji Barry had scored the winner in the 55th minute, but FC Cincinnati substitute Danni Konig scored the equalizer two minutes into stoppage time to steal two points from OCB.

The Richmond Kickers are currently in last place in the USL’s Eastern Conference, recording just 17 points from 22 games. All three of their wins have come at their home ground, City Stadium, where the two teams will be facing off tonight. While they’ve struggled this season, the Kickers have gained points in three of their last four games. Their last match-up was a 1-1 draw in Pittsburgh last Saturday night.

The two sides faced each other last season in back-to-back games late in the year. The first match-up took place in Melbourne resulting in a 1-1 draw. The second game took place the following weekend at City Stadium, with the Kickers taking away the three points with a 1-0 win. The difference between the two teams in the second game was a goal by Scott Thomsen, who joined OCB following the season.

“It’s a really big game,” OCB Head Coach Anthony Pulis said leading up to the game. “I look at Richmond and I don’t really understand why they don’t have more points. They’re a really good counter-attacking team. They’re well organized defensively and they’ve got a really dangerous front four. They’ve got pace, they’ve got power, they’ve got good movement, and good technical ability, so going in there, we know it’s going to be a really difficult game.”
