Orlando City vs. New York Red Bulls: How to Watch, TV Info, Live Stream, Lineups, Match Thread, and More

Welcome to your match thread for this afternoon’s match-up between Orlando City (8-9-6, 30 points) and the New York Red Bulls (11-9-2, 35 points). This is the second of two scheduled meetings between the Eastern Conference rivals in 2017.

The Lions are 2-3-1 in six meetings with the Red Bulls in the all-time series, and 1-2-0 at Red Bull Arena. Orlando earned a hard-fought 1-0 win at home back on April 9 in the first meeting of the season. Servando Carrasco scored on a corner kick to lift the Lions to their first ever win at home against New York.

The last meeting of 2016 was a 2-0 Orlando City loss on July 13 at Red Bull Arena, with the Lions playing under an interim coach. Bobby Murphy was at the helm for his second of four games when Connor Lade and Felipe powered New York to victory. It was Murphy’s only loss in charge, to go along with three draws. The teams met up in Orlando on May 6 of last year in a 1-1 draw. Kevin Molino equalized to nullify Bradley Wright-Phillips’ early goal.

New York came back in the first meeting of 2016, with three second-half goals to win 3-2 at Red Bull Arena on April 24. Cyle Larin opened the scoring, but the hosts dominated the rest of the game, despite trailing 1-0 at the break, scoring thrice in the second half from Mike Grella and Wright-Phillips (twice). The Lions pulled one back on an own-goal by Karl Ouimette, who had denied Larin a chance to put City up 2-0 earlier in the game with a flying scissor-tackle from behind just outside the 18, which inexplicably drew no call. Orlando, alas, could not find the equalizer on that night and was lucky to escape with only a one-goal defeat.

The teams split the 2015 season series, with each winning on the road. The Red Bulls claimed a 2-0 win in Orlando in a game that saw Larin sent off for a phantom foul (later rescinded) and then-manager Adrian Heath ejected. Larin got his revenge with a hat trick in a 5-2 win in New Jersey.

Match Overview

Orlando City is 0-3-1 in its last four games and has won just twice since April 29. The elevator has basically been going down for more than three months. The Red Bulls won four in a row prior to a tough 3-2 loss at Yankee Stadium against New York City FC on Sunday. The Lions got some reinforcements this week in Yoshimar Yotun and Dillon Powers, who could both see their Orlando City debuts.

Jonathan Spector (knee) and Dom Dwyer (nose surgery) will miss the match due to injury, while PC (adductor), Rafael Ramos (hamstring) and Kevin Alston (hamstring) are all close to a return. For New York, Gideon Baah (broken leg), Mike Grella (knee), Muhamed Keita (groin), and Daniel Royer (knee) are out, while Aurelien Collin (hamstring) is questionable, and Connor Lade is probable.

Match Thread Rules

This is your live thread for posting comments on the match. So use our comments section below to talk about the game in real time with other supporters. If you're new, welcome to our happy home! While you're here, please observe a few basic rules:

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They can get us in trouble, and no one wants that.
  • Try not to be "that guy" who spews nothing but venom and hate for the team. It's ok to be critical, and, let's face it, sometimes even the best teams can be frustrating to watch, but being overly negative relentlessly can sap the enjoyment for others.
  • Keep it somewhat clean and fair when criticizing players / officials. You never know who might be reading.
  • Do unto others in the match thread, the way you would have others do unto you. We are a fun community and want to keep it this way. We have a moderator, but we'd rather let him enjoy the game instead of having to play babysitter.
