Welcome to your live match thread for tonight's match-up between Orlando City (9-13-8, 35 points) and New England Revolution (11-14-5, 38 points) at Orlando City Stadium. It's the second of two scheduled meeting between the clubs this season, with both meetings coming in the month of September. Orlando City is 1-2-3 in the all-time series.

History

New England won the most recent meeting 25 days ago at Gillette Stadium by a 4-0 count and it could have been worse. Kei Kamara scored a hat trick and Teal Bunbury  also scored, with  Lee Nguyen assisting on all four goals to tie an MLS record. Jose Aja was sent off after receiving two yellow cards.

The lone Orlando win in the series came in Jason Kreis’ debut as the Lions’ coach last July 31, as Kevin Molino scored a brace for City in a 3-1 win. Cyle Larin also scored to more than offset Kamara’s strike.

The teams also drew 2-2 twice last season (and three times in the first four meetings), starting with the weird affair in Orlando back April 17, 2016, in which the teams reached a controversial 2-2 final score. It was leveled by a very late Nguyen penalty for a handball in the box on Servando Carrasco, who didn’t touch it with any part of his hand or arm. Kaká opened the scoring on penalty kick and Molino scored in the 92nd minute. Between those two goals, Teal Bunbury scored off a corner that appeared to be a goal kick. The second meeting last year reached the same final score on April 30 in New England. This time the Revs appeared the better side for much of the game, but the Lions fought back twice from one-goal deficits on goals by Molino and Carlos Rivas to nullify scores by Diego Fagundez and Juan Agudelo.

The teams met twice in 2015, with Orlando City rallying from a 2-0 deficit in the final 17 minutes to draw 2-2 (there’s that score again) at the Citrus Bowl last April. Larin and Aurelien Collin provided the goals for the Lions. The Sept. 5 rematch at Gillette Stadium didn't go as well, with New England taking a 3-0 win. Fagundez, Agudelo and Chris Tierney scored for the Revolution.

Match Overview

Orlando City is 6-4-4 at home but just 0-3-3 in its last six outings at Orlando City Stadium. The Lions have three wins since April and continue to fall toward the bottom of the Eastern Conference. New England won its last outing, 2-1 over Toronto FC at home on Saturday. The Revs are 0-12-3 on the road but could be rejuvenated after the firing of coach Jay Heaps.

The Lions are missing several regulars with Cristian Higuita (calf) injured and a lot of suspensions, including Jonathan Spector and PC for getting sent off Sunday at Portland. Will Johnson remains under league suspension. New England lists Kelyn Rowe (knee) and Nguyen (muscle spasms) as questionable.

Match Thread Rules

This is your live thread for posting comments on the match. So use our comments section below to talk about the game in real time with other supporters. If you're new, welcome to our happy home! While you're here, please observe a few basic rules:

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They can get us in trouble, and no one wants that.
  • Try not to be "that guy" who spews nothing but venom and hate for the team. It's ok to be critical, and, let's face it, sometimes even the best teams can be frustrating to watch, but being overly negative relentlessly can sap the enjoyment for others.
  • Keep it somewhat clean and fair when criticizing players / officials. You never know who might be reading.
  • Do unto others in the match thread, the way you would have others do unto you. We are a fun community and want to keep it this way. We have a moderator, but we'd rather let him enjoy the game instead of having to play babysitter.

Enjoy the match!
