USA vs. Canada, International Friendly: Preview, How to Watch, TV Info, Live Stream, Lineups, and Match Thread

Welcome to your live thread for the the first of the United States Women's National Team’s two friendly matches in four days against rival Canada at BC Place in Vancouver (10 p.m. ET, ESPN2). The return leg will be Sunday night at 9 p.m. and will take place at Avaya Stadium in San Jose, CA.

Orlando Pride stars Alex Morgan and Ashlyn Harris are on the roster and Chioma Ubogagu is getting a look as well as Jill Ellis has her slated for defending duties. Chi will be looking for her first U.S. cap.

The USWNT holds a 47-3-6  advantage in the all-time series, winning the most recent meeting by a 2-0 score line in the title game of the 2016 CONCACAF Women's Olympic Qualifying Championship in Houston back on Feb. 21, 2016. Portland Thorns teammates Tobin Heath and Lindsey Horan scored the goals that day for the U.S.

This will be only the third time in history the two rival squads have met in consecutive games in a home-and-home format. The first time it happened, the USWNT crushed the Canadians, 9-1, back in May of 1995 in Dallas, before nipping the hosts 2-1 in Edmonton. The teams did it again in 2001, drawing 2-2 in Toronto on June 30 of that year before traveling to Blaine, MN, where the U.S. won 1-0 on July 3.

The last time the U.S. played at BC Place, it won the 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup, 5-2 over Japan on July 5, 2015. Carli Lloyd's hat trick led the way, with Tobin Heath and Lauren Holiday also scoring. The USWNT also won its final group match of that World Cup at BC Place, defeating Nigeria 1-0. Previously, the Stars & Stripes won all five matches of the 2012 CONCACAF Olympic Women's Qualifying Tournament (for the London Olympics) at the same venue by an incredible combined score of 34-0.

Defender Taylor Smith returns from a shoulder injury she sustained in the NWSL final after a hard foul by Heath. Morgan and Julie Ertz lead the U.S. with five goals each in 2017, leading the Yanks to a record of 11-3-0 this calendar year.

Although the Canadians are led by veterans Christine Sinclair (259 caps) and Desiree Scott (126), the squad also includes six teenagers, including Deanne Rose from the University of Florida.
