SheBelieves Cup Coming to Orlando City Stadium in March of 2018

The SheBelieves Cup is coming to Orlando City Stadium in March. Pitting the top-ranked United States Women’s National Team against three of FIFA’s top six teams — Germany (2), England (3), and France (6) — the tournament enters its third year. The final day of the tournament will take place on Wednesday, March 7 in Orlando, after stops at Mapfre Stadium in Columbus on Thursday, March 1, and at Red Bull Arena in New Jersey on Sunday, March 4.

France will face Germany in the early game in Orlando on March 7, with the USWNT headlining against England at 7 p.m. It will be the USWNT’s first visit to Orlando City Stadium — home of Orlando City SC and the Orlando Pride. The U.S. will play Germany in Columbus on March 1, and France at Red Bull Arena on March 4.

The SheBelieves Cup is yet another major soccer event to come to Orlando City Stadium, following the USMNT’s World Cup qualifier in October, the NWSL final, the 2017 Women’s College Cup, and the recently announced MLS Combine.

Tickets for all three doubleheaders go on sale to the public Thursday, Jan. 11, at 10 a.m. ET through ussoccer.com and by phone at 1-800-745-3000. Fans with U.S. Soccer membership will have the opportunity to purchase tickets before they go on sale to the general public.

The U.S. won the inaugural SheBelieves Cup in 2016, with Alex Morgan leading the U.S. in scoring, with two goals, and taking the Best Player award. France won the event this past March with the U.S. finishing a disappointing fourth with a 1-2-0 record and -3 goal differential. The USWNT scored only one goal in the tournament this year.

The SheBelieves Cup winner is based on total points, with the first tie-breaker being overall goal difference, followed by goals scored, head-to-head result, and, if necessary, FIFA ranking.

The tournament was conceived and developed by USWNT players to inspire young girls and encourage them to accomplish their goals in life, whether athletic or in any other aspect of their lives. The tournament has grown in stature each year featuring some of the world’s top-ranked teams.  

The tournament’s arrival in Orlando shows the growing partnership between Orlando City Stadium and the U.S. Soccer Federation after October’s successful World Cup qualifying match between the USMNT and Panama. It also serves as another example of Orlando continuing to be the Soccer Capital of the South.
