Orlando Pride Waive Jamia Fields

The Orlando Pride have waived forward Jamia Fields. The 24-year-old is one of the longest tenured players on the Pride, being drafted by Orlando with the No. 5 pick in the 2015 NWSL Expansion Draft.

“It’s a sad and difficult decision to release one of our founding players,” Orlando Pride Head Coach Tom Sermanni said in a club press release.  “I’d like to thank Jamia for her passion and outstanding commitment to the Pride over the past two seasons. She has been a consummate professional throughout her time at the Club. We wish her every success with her career moving forward.”

Fields made 28 appearances for the Pride, with about half of them coming on as a substitute. She did not find the back of the net in her time in central Florida and only added two assists.

Prior to joining the Pride, the California native was a four-year player at Florida State. Fields helped FSU win the 2014 NCAA Division I Women’s Soccer Tournament. After college, Fields played for Western New York Flash for the 2015 season.

What it Means for Orlando

With Sydney Leroux coming to Orlando, Marta and Alex Morgan returning, and Rachel Hill dominating in the W-League this off-season, Fields was unlikely going to make a big impact on the Pride’s roster in 2018. If she had remained on the roster it would have been difficult to even get on the field and so this move just frees up the roster spot.
