PawedCast Episode 113: Orlando Pride Defender Shelina Zadorsky Interview and Roster Building for City and Pride

We could never have envisioned having so many new players to talk about in the month since our last episode, but there are a lot of new faces on both Orlando City and the Orlando Pride to discuss on this show. We started out by putting the Cyle Larin transfer to bed, as it became official since our last broadcast. Then we talked about six new Lions since our last outing and it turns out we’re both pretty excited about the Justin Meram trade.

We’re also talking about Tom Sermanni’s off-season wizardry, pulling in Sydney Leroux, Emily van Egmond, Poliana, and others. It’s a great appetizer for our exclusive interview with Pride defender Shelina Zadorsky, who says she’s looking forward to settling in and becoming a leader on the club.

After that, we address the U.S. Soccer Federation presidential election, USMNT and USWNT friendlies, the upcoming SheBelieves Cup and more. We answered listener questions in our #AskTMLPC mailbag (sort of — everyone seems to want to know when Orlando is firing the medical staff for the few knocks we’ve seen in preseason) and I take the opportunity to ask Dave to give us his spoiler-free thoughts on Black Panther. If there’s something you want us to address on our next show, just tweet it to us @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC.

Here’s your map to the sprawl of Episode No. 112:

0:12- Cyle Larin is an ex-Lion, while Cam Lindley, Uri Rosell, Justin Meram, Chris Mueller, Amro Tarek, and Lamine Sane are new Lions. Plus, Sermanni’s additions include internationals from the U.S., Brazil, and Australia!

36:58- Shelina Zadorsky spoke to us about leaving the Washington Spirit to come to Orlando, all the players she already knew on the team prior to her arrival, what she thinks of the club’s off-season moves, what she brings to the squad, and a lot more.

48:58- The USSF election wasn’t a surprise but it had us feeling kind of meh. But we’ll see what Carlos Cordeiro brings to the table in due time. Plus, the USMNT and USWNT played in January, the SheBelieves Cup is coming up, and hey, Black Panther is out.
