Welcome to your live thread for the United States Women's National Team’s third and final match in the second iteration of the Tournament of Nations. The USWNT faces Brazil (8:30 p.m. ET, FS1), as Alex Morgan and Ashlyn Harris will face Orlando Pride mmates . Brazil will take on Japan in the early game.teammates Marta, Monica, Camila, and Poliana.

The Yanks have it all to play for tonight and will know exactly what they need to do to win the tournament, as Australia takes on Japan in the early match at 5:45 p.m. ET at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, IL. The U.S. and Australia are tied for first in the tournament entering today’s games, on four points apiece. They drew their head-to-head match and have the same goal differential, but the USWNT has scored one more goal. Brazil lurks in third place, on three points, and could still win the tournament with a win tonight and a draw or loss for the Matildas.

The Brazilians finished a disappointing fourth in last year’s Tournament of Nations, going 0-2-1 and losing third place to Japan on goal differential, after getting spanked by Australia on the final match day, 6-1. The Seleção had the U.S. on the ropes in this fixture last year, leading 3-1 with just 12 minutes left to play. But the Yanks stormed back with three goals in nine minutes to win, 4-3. It was the first match in the USWNT’s current 18-match unbeaten run.

The U.S. holds a 27-3-5 record in 35 all-time meetings against Brazil. The Canarinhas are the world’s No. 7 team according to the latest FIFA rankings and have already qualified for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France. Brazil fell 3-1 in the tournament opener against Australia, but bounced back to beat Japan in the second round, 2-1. Marta set up Brazil’s lone goal against the Matildas and scored the first against Japan, so the Pride star has been heavily involved in this tournament for her side.

The United States will need to make sure to cut off the service both to and from Marta, and must defend well against some creative players like Andressinha and Debinha. A decisive victory could see the Stars & Stripes to the top of the table at the end of the competition.

Match Thread Rules

This is your live thread for posting comments on the match. So use our comments section below to talk about the game in real time with other supporters. If you’re new, welcome to our happy home! While you’re here, please observe a few basic rules:

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They can get us in trouble, and no one wants that.
  • Try not to be the person who spews nothing but venom and hate for the team. It’s OK to be critical, and, let’s face it, sometimes even the best teams can be frustrating to watch, but being overly negative relentlessly can sap the enjoyment for others.
  • Keep it somewhat clean and fair when criticizing players / officials. You never know who might be reading.
  • Do unto others in the match thread, the way you would have others do unto you. We are a fun community and want to keep it this way. We have a moderator, but we’d rather let him enjoy the game instead of having to play babysitter.

Enjoy the match. Go America!
