Good morning, Mane Landers. There isn’t much to say about the weekend’s results that hasn’t already been said. I know Annie says the sun will come out tomorrow, but man am I really starting to doubt the little red-haired twerp. Let’s get to those links.

Weekly Award Nominations for Orlando

While the weekend didn’t bring points for either Orlando team, it did result in a pair of weekly award nominations. From the Lions, Scott Sutter was nominated for the MLS Goal of the Week after his spectacular strike against Atlanta United that leveled the game at one apiece. Meanwhile, Ashlyn Harris made her customary appearance among the nominees for the NWSL Save of the Week for the Pride. She made a wonderful 1-vs-1 stop in the first half of the Pride’s game against the Chicago Red Stars. While it ended up not being enough, it was a great save all the same. Congratulations to both players for being recognized.

Rapinoe Ruled Out for Friendlies

Megan Rapinoe will play no part in the USWNT’s pair of friendly matches against Chile in California. The forward picked up a rib injury last week while helping the Seattle Reign to a 2-0 win over the Houston Dash. While Rapinoe won’t be able to play in either of the two friendly matches, she will still go to the U.S. camp to receive further evaluation. Meanwhile, she has been replaced in the squad by Amy Rodriguez. With World Cup qualification still not secured for the women, it will be a good chance for Rodriguez to show she deserves to play a part in the remainder of the qualification process.

Insight Into Video Review Process

A very interesting clip has been released giving a little more insight into the way that video review is used in the modern game. The footage is from last season’s FA Cup final in which Chelsea beat Manchester United courtesy of an Eden Hazard penalty. The clip shows Hazard being tackled in the box by Phil Jones, while the referee can be heard talking with the Video Assistant Referee, as well as the players on the field. It’s an interesting look at how the referees talk to players on the field, as well as how they communicate with the VAR when one is used.

Son Heung-Min May Need to Complete Military Service

If you’ve been paying attention to the start of the Premier League and you’ve been wondering where Tottenham’s Son Heung-Min has been, you probably aren’t alone. The short answer is that he’s currently trying to help South Korea win the soccer tournament at the 2018 Asian Games in order to gain exemption from South Korea’s mandatory military service, which must be completed by all males before they turn 28 (Son is 26). The long answer is, of course, a lot more complicated and involves exceptions to the rule, deferments so that the service may be completed after the age of 28, and many other things that would take far too long to explain in this short blurb.
