USA vs. Spain, International Friendly: Preview, How to Watch, TV Info, Live Stream, Lineups, and Match Thread

The United States Women’s National Team will wrap up its January trip to Europe today with an away match against Spain at 2:30 p.m. ET (ESPN2, UDN). The Yanks will want to wash the bad taste of Saturday’s 3-1 loss at France out of their mouths in the first ever meeting between the U.S. and Spain at Estadio José Rico Perez in Alicante.

The Spanish side, No. 12 in the current FIFA world rankings, will be competing in the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France this summer. It’s just the second time that Spain has qualified for the event. The Spanish won UEFA’s Group 7 in qualifying, sweeping all eight matches against its opponents (Austria, Finland, Serbia, and Israel), while out-scoring those opponents, 25-2. Striker Jenni Hermoso scored seven of her 25 career international goals in the qualifying group. She’ll be the player the USWNT back line will need to watch carefully.

Spain, which is coming off a 1-1 draw against Belgium five days ago, represents the 27^th different European country that the USWNT will face.

Orlando Pride striker Alex Morgan did not score against France, but sits just two goals shy of 100 for her international career. Pride goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris did not play at France but could feature today against Spain if Jill Ellis decides to rest Alyssa Naeher.

The USWNT was missing several key starters for the France game due to illness, including creative forwards Megan Rapinoe and Tobin Heath, and midfield rock Julie Ertz. All three could be available for today.
