Welcome to your match thread as the United States Women’s National Team plays the second match in its sendoff series for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in St. Louis. The U.S. will see a familiar face on the other bench as former USWNT and Orlando Pride head coach Tom Sermanni leads the Football Ferns into tonight’s match.

The USWNT is 14-1-1 in the all-time series against New Zealand, with the most recent meeting being a 5-0 win by the U.S. on Sept. 19, 2017 in Cincinnati. The Yanks are 5-1-2 in 2019, playing all but one of those games against teams bound for the World Cup in France next month.

New Zealand, the No. 19 ranked team in the world, qualified for the World Cup by winning the Oceania qualifying tournament without losing or drawing a game, or conceding a goal. The Ferns outscored the opposition 43-0 in that tournament. New Zealand was drawn into Group E in the World Cup, along with Canada, Cameroon, and the Netherlands.

The No. 1 USWNT features three Orlando Pride teammates — Alex Morgan, Ashlyn Harris, and Ali Krieger. Krieger is still sitting on 99 international caps and only Jill Ellis knows if she’ll get a shot at No. 100. Morgan will look to add to her 101 career goals with the USWNT to move up the all-time scoring list. She scored a brace the last time these teams met.
