Welcome to your match thread as the United States Men’s National team takes on Jamaica in the semifinals of the 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup. The game is in Nashville, TN and will kick off at 9:30 p.m. ET (FS1).

After an unimpressive win over Curaçao, the U.S. advanced to the semifinals. Through four games, the Yanks have yet to concede a goal and have outscored the opposition 12-0. However, the U.S. put on a poor display last time out and only managed to put two shots on target against FIFA’s 79th-ranked team in the world.

The U.S. has a rich history against the Reggae Boyz. Jamaica and the U.S, have played each other on 26 different occasions, and the USMNT has dominated the series, 15-3-8. The teams have played five times in the Gold Cup, and the Yanks hold a record of 4-1-0.

While history is on the U.S. side, recent history sides with the Reggae Boyz. In the last match-up, Jamaica beat the U.S., 1-0. The Reggae Boyz were the better side, and the Yanks were disappointing in the Gold Cup tune-up. Gregg Berhalter put out an inexperienced lineup that struggled in the match.

This will be the third Gold Cup in a row that Jamaica plays the U.S. In 2017, Bruce Arena managed his team to a 2-1 win, thanks to a Jordan Morris winner in the 88th minute. Jamaica knocked the U.S. out of the competition in 2015. Two first-half goals from Darren Mattocks and Giles Barnes were enough to beat Jurgen Klinsmann’s side, 2-1.

Jamaica got this far thanks to a 1-0 win over Panama. While Panama held 61% possession, it struggled in the final third. Jamaica put more shots on target, and Mattocks converted a penalty kick for the lone goal of the match.

Tonight’s winner will face Mexico in the final on Sunday after El Tri squeaked past Haiti 1-0 last night in extra time on a penalty kick by Raúl Jiménez.

Match Thread Rules

This is your live thread for posting comments on the match. So use our comments section below to talk about the game in real time with other supporters. If you’re new, welcome to our happy home! While you’re here, please observe a few basic rules:

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They can get us in trouble, and no one wants that.
  • Try not to be the person who spews nothing but venom and hate for the team. It’s OK to be critical, and, let’s face it, sometimes even the best teams can be frustrating to watch, but being overly negative relentlessly can sap the enjoyment for others.
  • Keep it somewhat clean and fair when criticizing players and/or officials. You never know who might be reading.
  • Do unto others in the match thread, the way you would have others do unto you. We are a fun community and want to keep it this way. We have a moderator, but we’d rather let him enjoy the game instead of having to play babysitter.

Enjoy the match! Go America!
