Welcome to your live thread for the United States Women's National Team vs. South Korea in the final match of the U.S. Victory Tour (2 p.m. ESPN) and Jill Ellis’ last game in charge as her historic tenure with the USWNT comes to an end.

It’s the fifth of five matches to celebrate the USWNT’s World Cup victory as the teams square off at Soldier Field in Chicago. This is the second of a two-game set against the South Koreans that began last Thursday in Charlotte, where a sluggish USWNT won 2-0 and hit the woodwork four times. Allie Long and Mallory Pugh scored the goals and Orlando Pride goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris got the shutout.

The U.S. players have to be exhausted at this point and Ellis has called in Casey Short as a reinforcement due to so many players being injured.

Prior to Thursday, the teams last met for a pair of friendlies in the fall of 2017. The United States won 3-1 in New Orleans on Oct. 19, 2017 on goals by Julie Ertz, Alex Morgan, and Megan Rapinoe. Three days later, the USWNT defeated Korea Republic 6-0 at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC. Sam Mewis scored twice and Christen Press, Ertz, Lynn Williams, and Long all added goals.

South Korea is FIFA’s No. 20 ranked team in the current world rankings. The side made it to the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France but didn’t do well. The South Koreans lost all three group stage matches, scoring only one goal and conceding eight times to finish last in the group behind host France, Norway, and Nigeria — all three of which advanced to the knockout stages.

One of the United States’ key injuries is to Orlando Pride striker Alex Morgan, while Kelley O’Hara , Lindsey Horan, and others are also out as the injuries have piled up. Washington Spirit midfielder Andi Sullivan has been added to the roster. But the U.S. isn’t the only team involved missing some key players. As Hal Kaiser tweeted, Lee Geum-min of Manchester City and Lee Min-a of Kobe INAC are both out due to injury.
