Welcome to your live thread for the United States Women's National Team vs. Costa Rica in the final match of 2019 and just the second under new manager Vlatko Andonovski (8 p.m. ESPN2, TUDN). The USWNT looked good in Vlatko’s debut, jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the first half. Sweden fought back and took advantage of a couple of U.S. mistakes but the Yanks held on to win 3-2 on Thursday.

The USWNT is 19-1-3 in the 2019 calendar year, and hasn’t lost since Jan. 19 in an away match against France. The USWNT is 14-0-0 in the all-time series against Costa Rica and has only played Canada and Mexico more often than Costa Rica when it comes to Concacaf foes. The most recent meeting came in 2016 when the Yanks won 4-0 in Kansas City in the final match before the Olympics.

Costa Rica is currently 38th in FIFA’s world rankings and Las Ticas are the fourth rated team in Concacaf. However, the U.S. should be able to handle Costa Rica and finish the year strong.

Lindsey Horan has been ruled out of this match due to injury and look for Vlatko to make some lineup changes from the squad that started against Sweden in Columbus a few days ago.

Match Thread Rules

This is your live thread for posting comments on the match. So use our comments section below to talk about the game in real time with other supporters. If you’re new, welcome to our happy home! While you’re here, please observe a few basic rules:

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They can get us in trouble, and no one wants that.
  • Try not to be the person who spews nothing but venom and hate for the team. It’s OK to be critical, and, let’s face it, sometimes even the best teams can be frustrating to watch, but being overly negative relentlessly can sap the enjoyment for others.
  • Keep it somewhat clean and fair when criticizing players / officials. You never know who might be reading.
  • Do unto others in the match thread, the way you would have others do unto you. We are a fun community and want to keep it this way. We have a moderator, but we’d rather let him enjoy the game instead of having to play babysitter.

Enjoy the match. Go America!
