The United States Women’s National Team will put its 29-match unbeaten streak on the line against Spain today as the 2020 SheBelieves Cup continues at Red Bull Arena (5 p.m., ESPN). The Yanks and Spain will play for control of the tournament, with each team entering with a 1-0-0 record and a +2 goal differential. However, Spain scored three times in its opening match while the USWNT scored only twice.

The USWNT is 2-0-0 in the series with both of the previous meetings coming just last year, and neither taking place in the United States. In the first-ever meeting between the two teams, the U.S. rode a Christen Press goal to a 1-0 win in Alicante, Spain on Jan. 22, 2019. The rematch came in the Round of 16 of last summer’s FIFA World Cup, with the Yanks getting two penalty kick conversions from Megan Rapinoe en route to a 2-1 win in Paris on June 24.

Orlando Pride defenders Emily Sonnett and Ali Krieger and goalkeeper Ashlyn Harris could play in this match after not making an appearance for Vlatko Andonovski on their home field on Thursday night in the USWNT’s 2-0 win over England. Spain kicked off the tournament with a 3-1 win over Japan to take the early lead in the 2020 SheBelieves Cup.

Spain is building a promising program. Currently rated No. 13 in FIFA’s world rankings, La Roja play technically sound soccer and have not been intimidated by the U.S. in the first two meetings.

Jorge Vilda’s side leads its group in 2021 UEFA Women’s Euro qualifying after wins over Azerbaijan and the Czech Republic, and a draw against Poland. The players the USWNT will most need to track are striker Jenni Hermoso and defender Irene Paredes.
