Worldwide Pride: Alex Morgan Scores Again and Other Orlando Pride News

This will be the final installment of Worldwide Pride for 2020. The WSL will go on holiday after this week, and will not return until January. With the Pride players set to return to the states at the end of the calendar year, there will be little news to share unless something unforeseen happens.

This edition covers the last two weeks. Alex Morgan and Emily van Egmond made headlines, as both scored and made the WSL Team of the Week.

Here’s how they and the rest of the Pride players performed:

Shelina Zadorsky (Tottenham — England), Alex Morgan (Tottenham — England)

Alex Morgan scored in back-to-back games for Spurs. Both goals came from the penalty spot. Tottenham took on Aston Villa on Dec. 13. Both Morgan and Zadorsky started and played the full 90 minutes as Spurs went on to win 3-1. Morgan scored her goal in the 13th minute and it was a confidently taken spot kick.

Spurs did not have a match last weekend. Tottenham was set to face Chelsea but the match was canceled due to multiple positive Covid-19 cases on the Chelsea side.

Claire Emslie (Everton — England),

Everton beat Manchester United 1-0 in the FA WSL Cup group stage on Dec 16. Four days later the Toffees took on Arsenal and fell 4-0. Emslie picked up an injury a few weeks ago and was not part of either of the game day squads.

Emily van Egmond (West Ham United — England)

West Ham beat Bristol City 4-0 on Dec. 13. Van Egmond played the full 90 minutes and bagged the second goal of the match. Martha Thomas made a fantastic run down the wing and put in a perfect ball for van Egmond, who finished on the volley.

West Ham went on holiday early after training facilities were shut down because of COVID.

Jade Moore (Atletico Madrid — Spain)

Atletico Madrid played in four matches in the past two weeks. Atletico won three of those matches, and outscored the opposition, 10-3. Moore did not start in any of these matches. She came off the bench in Atletico’s 1-0 win over Real Madrid on Dec. 19 and in its 5-0 win over Servette Chenois on Dec. 15.

Taylor Kornieck (MSV Duisburg — Germany)

Duisburg played in two matches in the past two weeks. First, Duisburg took on Hoffenheim and lost, 7-0. Kornieck entered the match as a substitute. Kornieck started and got a yellow card the following week, as Duisburg played a goalless draw against Meppen.

Camila (SE Palmeiras — Brazil)

After Palmeiras lost 1-0 to Corinthians on Dec. 2, the teams faced each other a few days later. This time Palmeiras was able to play to a 2-2 draw.
