PawedCast Episode 229: Orlando City and Pride News, the NWSL Draft, SheBelieves Cup, and More

It’s our first show of 2021 after a couple of weeks off (so happy new year!) and we’re rejuvenated and ready to talk about stuff. Orlando City had a little news since our last show, including ripping up Robin Jansson’s option year and signing the Beefy Swede to a new multi-year deal. We’re here to talk about that being good for Orlando and the FIFA switch being good for Lions midfielder Andres Perea.

Exploria Stadium is hosting all of the events and we’re happy about that. We talk about the entirety of the SheBelieves Cup coming to Orlando on the heels of a pair of USWNT friendlies against Colombia.

The Orlando Pride had a lot of news to break down, dating back to Christmas Eve. There were a lot of player signings — some with the Pride and some with European teams — to discuss. The team is somewhat taking shape for 2021 but there are still some questions that need to be answered. One question that has been answered is who the Pride’s new general manager will be, and it turns out that it’s Ian Fleming. We provide some background on the new GM and what the hiring means for Orlando.

The NWSL Draft took place Wednesday night and it was a long one. The league needed about five hours to get through 40 picks and some teams are probably still in their timeouts. The Pride selected four new faces — one in each round — and we’re here to tell you about those and hash out their overall value on the squad.

The mailbag was a little light this week but we still managed to ramble on a bit about Inter Miami and what that team’s name should be if Inter Milan is successful in its legal fight. If there’s anything — and we do mean anything —you want us to address on our next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC.

That’s all for this week.

Stay safe and enjoy the show!
