Orlando Pride Announce 2021 Preseason Schedule

The Orlando Pride announced the club’s 2021 preseason schedule today, leading into the 2021 Challenge Cup and NWSL season. The schedule consists of two games against NWSL opponents (Kansas City and Washington) and three against two in-state college teams (Florida State and Flagler College). All games will be closed to the public.

Last year, the Pride were scheduled to play just three preseason games against college opponents but the games were canceled due to the global pandemic. This year’s slate sees the team play professional teams during preseason for the first time since 2019, when they faced the North Carolina Courage on the road, dropping that match 4-0.

Three of the five games will be played in Central Florida. After starting with Kansas City on March 3, the team will travel to Tallahassee to take on the Seminoles on March 13. The following weekend, they’ll travel down to West Palm Beach to face the Washington Spirit.

This is the second time in club history that the Pride will play five preseason games. In 2017, they played four in-state college opponents and the U-23 U.S. Women’s National Team before starting their second NWSL season. This slate breaks a three-year stretch in which the team only scheduled three preseason games.

The Pride are 13-2-0 in the preseason. They are 11-1-0 against college teams and 0-1 against NWSL sides. The only repeat opponent this year is Florida State, against whom the Pride are 2-1-0 in preseason matches. The Pride defeated FSU 1-0 in April of 2016 and 4-0 in April of 2017. The Seminoles won the most recent meeting, 3-2, in February of 2018. That was the Pride’s first ever loss in a friendly.

The 2021 NWSL Challenge Cup will start on April 9 and the league’s regular season will kick off on May 15.
