PawedCast Episode 238: Orlando City and U.S. Results, Homegrown Signing, Pride and Academy News, and More

Orlando City was tripped up at home by New York City FC in preseason action but we’re calling shenanigans as the Pigeons got not one but two (!) penalty kick goals in one half of a preseason (!) match. At any rate, Alexandre Pato is already scoring goals in Orlando purple and that’s a good thing.

The Lions signed a new Homegrown Player this week in forward Wilfredo Rivera and that’s another good thing. Plus, we’re here to discuss Orlando City players representing the United States on multiple levels, with Andres Perea and Benji Michel seeing time with the U-23 squad and Daryl Dike getting the call for the senior USMNT.

The Orlando Pride unexpectedly were without a preseason opponent on Saturday due to COVID-19 testing results in Washington. Instead of a preseason game, it became a preseason intra-squad scrimmage, which is not as much fun. The Pride also will be represented at upcoming USWNT friendlies in Europe and we’re talking about that too.

Looking at the club’s younger players, the U-15 and U-17 teams had a good weekend against Inter Miami and that’s always welcome news. Also, the Orlando City U-23 side is about to get its season underway in the UPSL’s Florida Central Division.

This week’s mailbag was pretty full. There were questions about Perea, the opening day starting XI, the Snyder Cut, and Lions as the cast of Friends. Yeah, it was like that. If there’s anything — and we do mean anything —you want us to address on next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC.

That’s all for this week.

Stay safe and enjoy the show!

Here’s how show No. 238 went down:

0:15 – The Lions dropped a preseason match against NYCFC but got Pato going and gained a Homegrown player. Plus, the United States might as well start wearing purple kits.

24:24 – The Pride didn’t get to visit the Spirit, but that’s the world we’re living in. Meanwhile, poor Marc Skinner will be without Alex Morgan yet again, as she will be on international duty at the start of the NWSL Challenge Cup.

37:23 – The mailbag is full this week and we were up to every challenge our listeners threw at us.
