PawedCast Episode 249: Tesho Akindele Interview, Orlando Pride-Washington Spirit Rewind, National Team Stuff, and More

Orlando City was off this week with the international break but Daryl Dike has been spotted within the footprint of the 48 contiguous states and we hope to have him back in Orlando after tonight’s USMNT friendly against Costa Rica.

While the Lions were off, the Orlando Pride were not, as they hit the road to face the Washington Spirit. It turns out that the only team the Pride can’t seem to beat in 2021 is Washington, as the teams played to another 1-1 draw. However, with no Sydney Leroux in the lineup and facing a tough opponent during a hot afternoon match, a point seems like a good consolation prize from a trip to the nation’s capital. We break down the Pride’s latest match in what is now a five-game unbeaten streak to start the season. There’s lots of praise to go around.

Following Pride talk, we break down the United States Men’s National Team’s run in the Nations League. OK, we gloss over the Honduras game a bit, but there’s a whole lot to unpack from the championship game against Mexico. That match was as Concacaf as Concacaf gets, but the resilient young Yanks came away with a trophy in the competition’s first go-round. Getting one over on Mexico is always fun, even with all the shenanigans from Sunday night.

Orlando City forward Tesho Akindele jumped on with us this week to talk about his season so far, the Lions’ 2021 campaign, what the team is up to during the break, and his approach to so many situations. Tesho was a great guest and we enjoyed this conversation quite a bit.

Our mailbag was small this week but we discuss Gregg Berhalter’s approach to Sunday’s final.

That’s all for this week.

Stay safe and enjoy the show!

Here’s how show No. 249 went down:

0:15 – The Orlando Pride stayed unbeaten and for once Alex Morgan didn’t score a goal. Also, the USMNT wins a trophy in a crazy game that had a little bit of everything — even some things that we didn’t even know were things.

52:00 – Sorry to keep you waiting for Tesho, but that was an insane U.S.-Mexico match, so blame it on them. We think he was worth the wait.

1:08:53 – A quick update on the upcoming matches for the national teams and Orlando’s pro sides and some deep thoughts from a shallow mailbag.
