Orlando City Unveils New Legacy Kit Ahead of 2024 MLS Season
The Lions honor their history with a new road kit that calls back to the club’s USL days.
Orlando City unveiled the club’s new Legacy Kit this evening at a fan event at Cheyenne Saloon in the buildup to the Lions’ 10th season in Major League Soccer. The new lavender kit will look white(ish) on television and from a distance, but up close it reveals stunning details and a color scheme that honors the club’s history as a USL franchise upon its arrival in Orlando. This new kit will serve as the Lions’ road uniform for 2024 and 2025.
The Legacy Kit is now available for purchase on OCMobileShop.com, for pick up at The Den at
Inter&Co Stadium during regular business hours, and at MLSStore.com.
“We are so proud to introduce a kit that we know our fans will love, one that pays tribute to
everyone that has supported and led us to reach our 10th season in MLS,” Orlando City Chief Marketing Officer Pedro Araujo said in a club press release. “The Legacy Kit is designed to recognize just that — the path that has led us here today and the legacy of our early days as a professional soccer franchise in the City Beautiful. This kit is a thank you to the players, supporters, staff, partners and community members for which Orlando City would not exist without. We hope our fans enjoy and appreciate the details found throughout this jersey, and we can’t wait to continue celebrating our 10th season in MLS with many more surprises throughout the year.”
The color scheme includes red, purple, gold, and violet hues inspired by the Lions’ first championship season in the City Beautiful in 2011. The original red was paired with purple during the USL days but the secondary color became gold upon the move to MLS.
The most notable feature of the Legacy Kit is the crest, which is a redesigned take on the club’s original triple lion design. Orlando City worked with MLS and Adidas to update the crest, giving it more bite with metallic gold filigree. The Lions wore a three-lion crest from 2011 to 2014, winning multiple trophies at the USL level before jumping to MLS ahead of the 2015 season.
“Our fans have been asking for a tribute to our former crest for quite some time, so we are proud to be able to introduce this refreshed look while staying true to the Orlando City chapter that laid the foundation for our current era and successes as a member of Major League Soccer,” Araujo said in the club’s release.
The jersey, shorts, and socks include the standard Adidas triple stripe in “Glory Red,” while the words “Honor Thy History” are printed inside the neckline of the shirt. The jock tag includes a purple and gold letter X, which is the Roman numeral for 10, to honor the club’s 10th year in MLS.
Even the location of the kit unveil was significant, as the Cheyenne Saloon was the site where MLS Commissioner Don Garber announced Orlando City SC as the 21st MLS franchise on Nov. 19, 2013.
The Lions will wear the new Legacy Kit at home on March 9 when Minnesota United visits, billing it as a special “10th Season Celebration” match.
