2025 Orlando Pride Season In Review: Oihane
The Spaniard turned in a solid first season on the Pride’s back line.
The Orlando Pride signed Spanish international defender Oihane to a two-year deal with a mutual option year on Feb. 14, 2025 from Real Madrid Femenil. The 25-year-old brought quite a bit of experience, having been a regular for the Spanish Women’s National Team and a member of the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup champions.
Oihane was brought in to compete for the starting role but wasn’t able to completely lock it down due to dealing with the occasional knock. Despite looking like a starter when she was on the pitch, she still shared time with fellow right back Cori Dyke. Regardless, she was an asset to the Pride’s defense in 2025.
Let’s take a look at Oihane’s first season with the Pride.
Statistical Breakdown
Oihane did not appear in the 2025 Challenge Cup, but she made 20 appearances with 15 starts in regular-season action, recording 1,113 minutes. She put her one of her four shots on target, but did not score a goal. The defender completed 325 of her 459 passes (70.8%), including 10 key passes, 12 accurate crosses and 10 completed long balls, and she recorded two assists in the regular season. Defensively, she recorded 15 tackles, 19 interceptions, four blocks, and 37 clearances. She committed 11 fouls, drew nine on her opponents, and was not booked.
The defender made two appearances in the 2025 playoffs, coming off the bench in both games and logging 69 minutes. She did not score a goal or record an assist. She took one shot that was on target and completed 13 of her 20 passes (65%), completed two of eight crosses (25%), did not attempt a long ball, and did not record a key pass. Defensively, she added three tackles, one interception, one block, and five clearances. Oihane committed one foul, drew none, and was not booked.
The Spaniard made three appearances with two starts in the Concacaf W Champions Cup and played 161 minutes. She did not have a goal contribution or attempt a shot. The fullback completed 76 of her 90 passes (84.4%) but did not create a scoring chance with a key pass in the competition. On the defensive end, she won two tackles, and she did not commit nor suffer any fouls and was not booked.
Best Game
Oihane’s best game was the Pride’s 3-2 comeback victory over Angel City on April 25. Despite not starting the match, the defender completely changed the game when she subbed on in the 59th minute, playing the final 31 minutes plus stoppage time.
Her most impactful moment of the game came in the 71st minute, when she crossed the ball through traffic to Marta in the middle of the box, picking up a nice assist and starting the eventual comeback.
In addition to her assist, Oihane finished the match with two shots, putting one on target, while touching the ball 40 times and completing 11 of her 18 passes (61%). Defensively, she added two tackles, three clearances, two interceptions, and won four of her six duels. She committed one foul but suffered two, and she was not booked.
From the moment she came on, she was the spark that the Pride needed on both ends of the pitch. Her performance garnered her Player of the Match honors from both Michael Citro and myself on SkoPurp Soccer: An Orlando Pride Podcast.
2025 Final Grade
The Mane Land gave Oihane a composite grade of 6 out of 10 for the 2025 season. If she didn’t have to deal with the occasional injury and had more time on the field, she may have earned a higher grade. We saw flashes of what she can bring to the right back position, especially getting forward into the attack. Her crossing wasn’t always consistent, but when she was on, she created a lot of danger in the area.
2026 Outlook
Oihane is under contract for next season with an option for 2027. She was brought in to be a starter, and with her experience, she should fight for the starting role next season. Of course, the defense is one place where the Pride have depth. Cori Dyke will continue to vie for the starting right back position, and there is always the possibility that Emily Sams sees some more time out there, depending on the Pride’s center back situation.
That being said, I think that Oihane’s experience will ultimately be the deciding factor on who gets the most starts. It will be the last year of her contract with the mutual option year looming. How many minutes she sees might determine whether she wants to stay or not. She has all the tools to be successful in Seb Hines’ system.
