The spice must continue to flow in the City Beautiful. Orlando City announced today that Trinidad & Tobago international forward Tyrese Spicer has signed a new contract through the 2027-2028 season with a club option for 2028-2029. Although the club picked up his contract option for 2026, he would have become a free agent at the end of the upcoming year. With this new deal, the Lions lock down a developing player for a few more years.

“In his short time with us, Tyrese has already shown the qualities that make him a special player,” Orlando City General Manager and Sporting Director Ricardo Moreira said in a club press release. “His pace, creativity, and commitment have brought a new possibilities and quality to our attack. We believe he has an incredibly bright future here in Orlando, and we’re thrilled to have him as part of our long-term plans as we continue to push for success.”

The Lions acquired the 25-year-old native of Trincity, Trinidad from Toronto FC on Aug. 1 in exchange for $225,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money (GAM) and $275,000 in 2026 GAM, with $50,000 in additional GAM dependent on performance-based metrics. After his arrival in the City Beautiful, Spicer made 12 appearances, starting twice and scoring two goals while adding two assists across all competitions.

Since joining Orlando via trade from Toronto earlier this year, Spicer has made two starts in 12 appearances, scoring two goals and providing two assists across all competitions, including one game-winning helper. The 2024 No. 1 overall selection in the 2024 MLS SuperDraft has made 48 regular-season appearances (22 starts) since turning pro, logging 2,203 minutes. He’s scored five goals and added four assists, putting 16 of his 40 shots on target. Spicer also scored in his first MLS Cup playoff appearance in 2025, coming off the bench and scoring in Orlando’s 3-1 wild card road loss to the Chicago Fire on Oct. 21 to spoil the shutout.

Toronto FC selected Spicer out of Lipscomb, where he played in 57 games, scoring 29 career goals for the Bisons while providing 18 assists. He was named the 2023 Atlantic Sun Conference (ASUN) Player of the Year, finishing the campaign with a conference-high 14 goals to go along with three assists. He was a first-team All-American as selected by United Soccer Coaches and was a Mac Hermann Trophy semifinalist his final collegiate season in Nasvhille.

The speedy forward made his senior international debut in March and has already made 11 career appearances for the Trinidad & Tobago Men’s National Team, scoring two goals and adding two assists.

Spicer learned the game in his native Trinidad while at St. Augustine Secondary School, where he was named MVP and led his team in scoring en route to a North Zone Championship.

What It Means for Orlando City

In the short-term, nothing has changed for the Lions. Spicer was going to be part of the team in 2026 anyway. Reportedly, Spicer wanted a new deal from Toronto and the Canadian side was playing him as more of a left back/left wingback more often than as a forward. That was the likely impetus for his departure from Toronto. Moreira saw the potential in Spicer’s combination of size and speed, and saw the potential for him to develop into a dangerous attacking piece.

Both with his national team and since joining Orlando, Spicer continues to create danger with his movement and athletic ability. He possesses a powerful shot and the ability to get the ball to teammates in good spots in the box. Having just turned 25, he has plenty of time to develop into a potential starter, and he’s already shown how much of a threat he is off the bench against tired legs.
