Welcome to your match thread for tonight’s meeting between Orlando City (0-0-1, 1 point) and the Chicago Fire (0-1-0, 0 points). This is the first of two meetings scheduled for 2016, with the second coming Sunday, Aug. 14 at Toyota Park. The Lions went 2-1-1 in four meetings last season but 2-0-1 in MLS play, with the lone loss coming in a U.S. Open Cup match on the road.

The teams met only once in Orlando last season, with the Lions and Fire battling to a 1-1 draw. You may recall that the 1-1 draw was a five-hour, weather-delayed affair with Eric Gehrig’s own-goal canceling out a David Accam strike. The other three meetings came in Chicago, with City winning 3-2 and 1-0 in MLS meetings and falling 3-1 in USOC quarterfinal action.

While City enters today fresh off a thrilling comeback 2-2 draw against Real Salt Lake, the Fire are coming off a wild 4-3 home loss to New York City FC on Sunday under windy, blustery conditions. Razvan Cocis, Kennedy Igboananike and David Accam (pen.) scored for the Fire.

Defensive midfielder Cristian Higuita has served his suspension for being sent off in last season’s finale, but Darwin Ceren earned himself a week off with a red card on Sunday. Meanwhile, left wing Carlos Rivas and midfielder Antonio Nocerino appear available for tonight’s lineup after sitting out against RSL. Kaká is still out with a thigh strain and center back David Mateos is also still unavailable.
