Welcome to your live thread for the United States Women's National Team taking on Ireland in the first match of the U.S. Victory Tour (10 p.m. ET, ESPN2). It’s the first of five matches to celebrate the USWNT’s World Cup victory as the teams collide at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, CA.

The USWNT will be playing its first match at home since winning the World Cup and it’s appropriate that the game is at the site where the U.S. captured the World Cup title in 1999. There should be a good crowd on hand with the U.S. Soccer Federation reporting that more than 32,000 tickets had been sold as of Aug. 1.

The United States is 14-1-2 in the 2019 calendar year, but hasn’t lost since Jan. 19 in an away match against France. The USWNT is 12-0-0 in the all-time series and has scored at least five goals on seven occasions in those 12 prior meetings.

The most recent meeting between the Yanks and the Republic of Ireland was Jan. 23, 2016 — also in California. The USWNT won 5-0 in San Diego behind a Carli Lloyd hat trick. It was Orlando Pride striker Alex Morgan’s 100th cap and Mallory Pugh’s USWNT debut. Pugh scored a goal in her first ever senior match with the U.S.

Unfortunately, Morgan and Megan Rapinoe will not be available for Jill Ellis to select tonight.

Match Thread Rules

This is your live thread for posting comments on the match. So use our comments section below to talk about the game in real time with other supporters. If you’re new, welcome to our happy home! While you’re here, please observe a few basic rules:

  • Absolutely no links to illegal streams. They can get us in trouble, and no one wants that.
  • Try not to be the person who spews nothing but venom and hate for the team. It’s OK to be critical, and, let’s face it, sometimes even the best teams can be frustrating to watch, but being overly negative relentlessly can sap the enjoyment for others.
  • Keep it somewhat clean and fair when criticizing players / officials. You never know who might be reading.
  • Do unto others in the match thread, the way you would have others do unto you. We are a fun community and want to keep it this way. We have a moderator, but we’d rather let him enjoy the game instead of having to play babysitter.

Enjoy the match. Go America!
