PawedCast Episode 224: New York City FC Rewind, Suspensions, New England Preview, and More

Orlando City is nothing if not on brand. The Lions advanced in their historic first playoff match but didn’t even win it. The result will go down as a draw, with the lads in purple advancing on penalties after the weirdest shootout most people have ever seen. But hey, how many times do you get to celebrate advancing in the playoffs three times in one day?

We break down the Lions’ incredible shootout victory after a hard-fought 1-1 draw against New York City FC and make our selections for our Man of the Match.

Jake Catanese from The Bent Musket was kind enough to stop by and help us preview Sunday’s unexpected match-up against the New England Revolution. We haven’t seen the Revs for a while, so it was good to get some insight from Jake on where the team is heading under Bruce Arena and what we might be able to expect on Sunday.

After our segment with Jake, we discuss league officiating double standards and whether they mean anything at all. We also talk about the Pride players who are and are not with the USWNT for Friday’s match and we touch on the death of Diego Maradona.

Our mailbag has questions, as usual, and we have answers. If there’s anything — and we do mean anything —you want us to address on our next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC.

Finally, we’re here with our key match-ups and predictions for Sunday’s match against New England.

That’s all for this week.

Stay safe and enjoy the show!

Here’s how show No. 224 went down:

0:15 – The Lions got their first MLS postseason “win” on Saturday but it took some doing and they had to work overtime to get there. What happened? What worked? What didn’t?

36:36 – Jake Catanese provides information about an opponent Orlando City normally sees a couple times per year (but this is 2020 so the teams haven’t met yet).

58:09 – We’re thankful for this week’s mailbag and to our listeners, plus, there are key match-ups and predictions to discuss.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
