Orlando City remains undefeated on the young 2021 season but the Lions have drawn three times in four outings after Saturday night’s 1-1 affair with New York City FC at Exploria Stadium. It was the third consecutive match with a dramatic Nani goal but an ill-timed challenge from the returning Joao Moutinho threw NYCFC a lifeline via a late penalty. Still, the Lions appear in good form, aside from needing more offensive contributions from Chris Mueller and the striker position. We break down the match and give our Man of the Match choices and discuss Mueller’s current form as well.
Jason Anderson from Black and Red United joined us to help us preview Orlando City’s next opponents, D.C. United. As an added bonus, Jason also helped us preview the Orlando Pride’s NWSL opener this Sunday at home against the Washington Spirit. It turns out D.C. United and the Spirit are from the same geographical region. Who knew? (Everyone.) Big thanks to Jason for his insight into D.C.’s injury struggles and new style of play as well as what to expect from the Spirit when they visit Orlando.
The Lions are reportedly close to being sold to the Wilf Family and we discuss the stewardship of Flavio Augusto da Silva in his time as Orlando City owner and his approach to team ownership. We also talk about how things can go terribly wrong with a new owner, which was essentially a segue into our discussion of how awful the Columbus Crew (never Columbus SC) rebrand has gone so far. Wow, just…no.
Former Lion Dom Dwyer has a new team and we discuss how Toronto FC needed him and how he could have helped Orlando with this year’s striker issues (loans, knees, etc.). We also tell you where Jordan Bender will be playing his 2021 soccer and why it’s a good thing.
This week’s mailbag is light but asks who else could (should?) go out on loan in 2021 as Bender did.
Then we get to our key match-ups and score predictions for Orlando City vs. D.C. United on Sunday.

That’s all for this week.
Stay safe and enjoy the show!
Here’s how show No. 245 went down:
0:15 – Orlando City and New York City FC drew yet again and that’s not a bad result, but when you start stacking draw upon draw, it’s also not ideal. The defense has been mostly sharp, but more goals are needed. Plus, our MotM picks and where’s the 2020 Cash?
25:35 – Our supersized guest spotlight belongs to Jason Anderson this week, where we discuss not one, but two upcoming opponents — one on the MLS side and one in the NWSL. Jason has all the info you want to know about D.C. United and the Spirit.
56:23 – We don’t know how the Wilf family ownership of OCSC will go if/when it happens, but we don’t want a complete rebrand and we’ve got things to say about what Columbus did. Plus our mailbag and game predictions for Sunday night in D.C.

SkoPurp Soccer Episode 90: Houston Rewind, Pride Call-Ups, Bay FC Preview, and More
A win at the death for the Pride vs. Houston will be followed by a trip to play Bay FC.

The Orlando Pride returned to action after the international break and left it late before dispatching the Houston Dash 1-0. Cori Dyke was the improbable hero, scoring deep in stoppage time to snare all three points for the hometown Pride. A goal to win it late is better than no goal at all, especially when that goal is the game winner. It nearly wasn’t, as Anna Moorhouse was saved blushes for a mistake by an offside flag, but in the end, even ugly wins are wins.
We look back at the key moments in the match, check our score predictions, and make our selections for Player of the Match.
We also discussed Marta and Angelina being selected for Brazil’s Copa America Femenina roster.
Afterwards, we jumped into this week’s mailbagbox, which wanted to know about a listener’s outfit, whether the Pride can just for once make things easy on themselves, and more. Remember, you can ask us anything by hitting us up on Twitter at either @TheManeLand or @SkoPurpSoccer and using the hashtag #AskSkoPurp. We’d also appreciate any ratings or reviews you can leave wherever you get your podcasts, and if you do that on Apple Podcasts, we’ll find them easily and read them on the show.
Finally, we previewed the Pride’s upcoming Friday match against Bay FC. We look at both teams’ 2025 seasons so far, break down the short series history, provide our key matchups for the game, and make our final score predictions.

Here’s how Episode 90 went down:
0:15 – A look back at a wild finish that prevented a meh 0-0 draw against Houston.
23:17 – The mailbagbox is always a nice cherry on top of a Pride victory.
39:48 – A look ahead at the Pride’s second-ever trip to play Bay FC.

PawedCast Episode 484: OCB Beats Huntsville, Alex Freeman’s USMNT Debut, Colorado Preview, and More
The Young Lions nip another good team in stoppage time and the senior Lions head to the Rocky Mountains.

Orlando City was off this week but Orlando City B was not. The Young Lions went on the road against one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference and, despite being dominated for much of the match, turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 away win. We broke down the team’s second straight victory in stoppage time. We also looked ahead to OCB’s midweek match at Carolina Core.
We also spoke about Alex Freeman’s first USMNT cap. The Yanks didn’t play poorly most of the time, but the two goals they conceded against Turkey were poor, and it’s not assuring to see the team playing like this just before the Gold Cup. However, we’re happy for Alex, who acquitted himself well in his first match for the U.S. senior team.
The mailbagbox asked about the team’s striker situation, players returning to Orlando from international duty, sleeve sponsors, and more. We forgot one question, but in a surprise move, we remembered at the end and stuck in a bonus question late in the show. Remember, if there’s anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC, or hitting us up on Bluesky Social with that same hashtag.
Following the mailbagbox segment, we discussed Duncan McGuire’s shoulder surgery, which is a big blow to both the big striker and the Lions. Hopefully McGuire will heal as quickly this time as he did with his other shoulder surgery.
Finally, we looked ahead to Orlando City’s trip to face the Colorado Rapids on Saturday. The Lions will have to battle a decent Rapids side as well as the altitude this weekend in a difficult place to get a result. We look at the series history and both teams’ trajectories, provide our key matchups, and make our final score predictions.

Here’s how No. 484 went down:
0:15 – The Young Lions are the new Cardiac Cats and Alex Freeman is a new USMNT fullback.
15:42– Our listeners ask questions both personal and not-so-personal in our mailbagbox segment.
32:35 – Duncan’s shoulder woes continue and we look ahead to the Rapids. Oh, and bonus mail!

SkoPurp Soccer Episode 89: International Pride, Listener Mail, Houston Preview, and More
Pride players represent their countries all over the world and Orlando returns to action with a match against Houston.

The Orlando Pride had the weekend off for the international break, but that’s the team as a whole. Nine players from the roster were away with their national teams as we recorded this week’s episode, and we talked a bit about the first match from each player’s perspective to kick off the show.
Afterwards, we dove straight into this week’s mailbagbox, which provided a clarification from last week, asked about McKinley Crone getting some starts, and more. Remember, you can ask us anything by hitting us up on Twitter at either @TheManeLand or @SkoPurpSoccer and using the hashtag #AskSkoPurp. You can use that same hashtag and hit @TheManeLand.bsky.social up on Bluesky. Or you can visit our show page, scroll down, and fill out the handy form. We’d also appreciate any ratings or reviews you can leave wherever you get your podcasts, and if you do that on Apple Podcasts, we’ll find them easily and read them on the show.
Finally, we discussed the Pride’s game Saturday against the Houston Dash. The Houston-based club has been better away from home than in its own stadium this season, and Orlando can’t be complacent, because the NWSL is unforgiving. So, the returning internationals have to recover as quickly as possible and get ready to face a Dash side that has been problematic over the years. We discuss the all-time series, the tale of the tape, our key matchups for the game, and our score predictions.
