How’s it going, Mane Landers? I knocked out my fifth book of January this week, finishing up The Atlas Paradox by Olivie Blake. Next month I plan on tackling Stephen King’s Fairy Tale, along with some romance books still left on my reading list. Reading always makes time fly by for me, which is nice while waiting for the MLS and NWSL seasons to start. I don’t have many weekend plans beyond working, so I’m hoping to kick back and relax a bit. For now, let’s enjoy these links from around the soccer world.
Ramiro Enrique Officially Joins Orlando City
In a move that’s been reported on throughout this month, Orlando City officially signed Argentine forward Ramiro Enrique to a three-year deal, with options for 2026 and 2027 as well. The 21-year-old is now the club’s third U22 Initiative player, filling the vacancy left after Andres Perea was traded to the Philadelphia Union. Enrique joins Orlando from Club Atlético Banfield in Argentina’s top flight, contributing 12 goals and three assists in 73 appearances across all competitions. Able to play as a center forward or as a winger, his versatility should help during the congested parts of Orlando’s schedule. I’m excited to see him and the rest of the offense in action this season. Multiple players are capable of playing at different positions, which should lead to a dynamic attack that can break down defenses.
Cory Price Named Pride’s Director of Medical and Performance
The Orlando Pride announced that Cory Price will become the director of medical and performance. Price worked as a contract physical therapist for the Pride over the past three seasons and was also a sports rehabilitation clinical specialist for Orlando Health. In this new position, he will now lead the Pride’s operations regarding nutrition, sports science, and other areas.
“I am excited for the opportunity to be part of building a winning culture with the Orlando Pride, and thank the club for choosing me to be a part of this project. I’ve enjoyed my time working with the players and staff over the last few years and am looking forward to having a larger, more impactful opportunity in this new position,” Price said. “My goal is to provide a safe environment where player health and safety is at the forefront. I believe if we can accomplish that, then everything else will fall into place. I can’t wait to get started.”
Earnie Stewart Steps Down as USSF Sporting Director
The shakeup within the United States Soccer Federation continues as Earnie Stewart will no longer serve as its sporting director. Stewart will remain at his post until Feb. 15 before heading to the Netherlands to join PSV Eindhoven. The former USMNT player was named general manager of the USMNT back in 2018 and was promoted to sporting director the following year. With Brian McBride also departing, the USSF is now without a sporting director, a USMNT general manager, or a USMNT head coach. A search will now begin for a new sporting director and that eventual hire will oversee the hiring of the new head coach, with Anthony Hudson serving as the interim head coach in the meantime. There is plenty of change happening, but it’s also an opportunity to bring in the right people for the right positions before the 2024 Olympics and 2026 World Cup.
Analyzing Colombia Ahead of Friendly
After losing to Serbia earlier this week, the United States Men’s National Team will take on Colombia tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. in Carson, CA. Like the U.S., Colombia’s roster features many players who are rather new to the international scene. Of the 20 players called up, veteran left back Frank Fabra is the only one with more than five appearances for the senior team. There are six MLS players on Colombia’s roster as well, including LAFC forward Cristian Arango, Columbus Crew forward Cucho Hernandez, and New York Red Bulls center back Andres Reyes. This match will test the USMNT’s fullbacks as Colombia likes to play out wide and isn’t hesitant to switch the point of attack.

All of Orlando’s soccer teams lose, Lions unveil Vinicius Nogueira, and more.
Hello, Mane Landers! I hope all is well with you down in Florida. I’ve been staying busy at work over the weekend. Let’s wish a happy belated birthday to Orlando Pride defender Cori Dyke, who turned 26 on Sunday, and a happy birthday to Orlando City defender Bernardo Rhein, who turns 19 today. We’ve got plenty to cover today, so let’s get to the links.
Lions Concede Two Late Goals in Loss at New England
Orlando City fell 4-2 to the New England Revolution on the road on Saturday at Gillette Stadium, conceding twice in stoppage time to drop a point. After trailing 2-0, the Lions came back with second-half goals from Ivan Angulo and Martin Ojeda, with the latter from the penalty spot just before the 90 minutes were up. However, in stoppage time, the Lions imploded, with Peyton Miller and Carles Gil closing out the night with two goals each for the Revolution. The loss snapped Orlando’s five-game unbeaten streak in league play, and the Lions left Foxborough with no points instead of at least one. Orlando City will be back on the road for its next match on Saturday against the Philadelphia Union.
Lions Unveil Vinicius Nogueira
Orlando City unveiled left back Vinicius Nogueira on Friday with a photo shoot at Inter.co Stadium.
The Lions signed Nogueira on Aug. 27 on loan from Bulgarian First League side PFC Ludogorets through the end of the 2027 MLS Sprint Season, with an option to make the move permanent. The 24-year-old Brazilian was on the bench during Orlando City’s match against the New England Revolution on Saturday but did not play.
Pride Fall at home to Portland Thorns
The Orlando Pride lost 4-1 to the Portland Thorns on Saturday at Inter.co Stadium, and while the team is still mathematically alive for the postseason, the home defeat made things even more of a longshot than they were. The Pride started slowly and were down 2-0 before Ally Lemos pulled one back in the first half. Orlando missed several scoring chances, and in the second half, Portland scored two goals to put the match away. Orlando will travel to the West Coast to take on Bay FC on Sunday.
OCB Falls to Atlanta United 2 on Decision Day
Orlando City B lost 4-2 to Atlanta United 2 on Decision Day Sunday at Osceola County Stadium, falling all the way to 10th and out of the playoff places. Atlanta struck first early before Issah Haruna tied it up for the Young Lions. However, Atlanta got an own goal when Tristan Himes punched a set piece deliver in off Harvey Sarajian to retake the lead, and Ignacio Saurez-Couri added another to make it 3-1. Justin Hylton scored for OCB to cut the deficit to one before halftime. In the second half, Dominik Chong-Qui scored the final goal to secure Atlanta’s win. For the Young Lions, the season ends in disappointment again, missing the MLS NEXT Pro postseason for the second straight season.

- Christian Pulisic started and scored for AC Milan in a 3-0 win against Lecce, extending the team’s Serie A unbeaten streak to five matches.
That will do it for me today, Mane Landers. Enjoy your Monday, and I’ll see you next time.

Lion Links: 9/18/26
Justin Ellis named to USMNT roster for the first time, Orlando City players called up, MLS club profiles unveiled, and more.
Happy Friday, Mane Landers! There’s plenty of soccer to look forward to this weekend, with both the Orlando Pride and Orlando City in action on Saturday before Orlando City B finishes its regular season on Sunday. Hopefully, we’ll have plenty to celebrate over the next few days. But for now, let’s jump right into today’s links from around the soccer world!
Justin Ellis Named to First USMNT Roster
United States Men’s National Team Head Coach Mauricio Pochettino called up 28 players for training camp ahead of the team’s first friendlies since the World Cup. Orlando City forward Justin Ellis has had a breakout season at just 19 years old and is one of 13 uncapped players to earn a spot on the roster. Cavan Sullivan, Zavier Gozo, and Julian Hall are a few of the other young talents to keep an eye out for during these matches. Former Lion Alex Freeman, who scored for the U.S. at the World Cup, was called up as well. The U.S. will take on Peru on Sept. 26 at Inter.co Stadium, so hopefully fans will be able to see some familiar faces. Following that match, the Yanks will play against Chile on Sept. 29 in St. Louis before friendlies against Mexico on Oct. 3 and Canada on Oct. 6.
Lions Called Up For International Duty
Ellis isn’t the only Lion who will be with their national team over the next couple of weeks. Midfielder Wilder Cartagena was called up for Peru’s friendlies, along with former Lions Pedro Gallese and Yoshimar Yotun.
Tyrese Spicer was called up for Trinidad & Tobago’s upcoming Concacaf Nations League matches with spots in the quarterfinals up for grabs. Trinidad & Tobago will play against Haiti and the Dominican Republic before a pair of matches against Curacao.
Defender David Brekalo was also called up for Nations League games and will head to Europe for Slovenia’s matches in League B against Scotland, Switzerland, and North Macedonia.
Orlando City’s Club Profile Revealed
MLS released the club roster profiles for each team as of Sept. 15. These profiles have been a great way to see how each team’s roster is constructed, while also showing the contract and option details for each player. The Lions have all Designated Player and MLS U22 Initiative slots filled, with Eduard Atuesta, David Brekalo, and Braian Ojeda listed as TAM players. The profile also reveals that Orlando has $1.86 million in 2026 General Allocation Money remaining, and it’s hard not to wonder about the improvements that could have been made to the team with that money.
Vlatko Andonovski Joins the Chicago Stars
The Chicago Stars have hired Vlatko Andonovski as the club’s chief soccer officer to right the ship after another rough season. Already eliminated from playoff contention, the Stars have only won five games so far this season and fired Martin Sjögren as head coach last month. Andonovski joins the Stars after terminating his contract with the Kansas City Current on Sept. 7. The former United States Women’s National Team head coach has had plenty of success in women’s soccer and it’ll be interesting to see if he can turn things around in Chicago.

- The Orlando Pride remained in 11th in CBS Sports’s NWSL power rankings following their 2-2 draw on the road against the Kansas City Current.
- The San Diego Wave signed 18-year-old attacker Melanie Barcenas to a contract extension through the 2028 season. She’s been enjoying a breakout season in San Diego, scoring six goals so far this season.
- Despite being called up to the USMNT, Julian Hall stated that he remains open to playing for Poland, which is where his mother is from.
- From the heavyweight match between Roma and Inter in Serie A to the derby match between Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid, here are the matchups to watch for in Europe this weekend.

Lions lose in Ohio, Pride part ways with Gabi Nunes, Barbra Banda’s league lessons, and more.
Well, Wednesday night could have gone better. It’s disappointing that we won’t be able to see the U.S. Open Cup final in Orlando, but there’s still plenty of soccer left to play this year for us to get excited about. Before we dive into Orlando City’s game and the rest of today’s links, let’s all wish a happy birthday to Orlando Pride defender Kerry Abello!
Orlando City Falls in Columbus
The Lions were eliminated from the U.S. Open Cup after losing 2-1 on the road to the Columbus Crew in the semifinals. Orlando City nemesis Josef Martinez gave the Crew an early lead, but the Lions managed to level things before halftime through Martin Ojeda. Unfortunately, Antoine Griezmann had to exit the match and the Lions were subpar without him, conceding another goal and failing to muster a single shot on target, let alone find another equalizer. All attention now turns towards securing a spot in the playoffs with nine games left in the regular season.
Orlando Pride, Gabi Nunes Agree to Part Ways
The Orlando Pride announced Wednesday that the club and forward Gabi Nunes have mutually agreed to terminate her contract. The 29-year-old had only just signed with the Pride on Aug. 4 on a contract through the 2026 season, but she managed just two appearances for 16 total minutes while in Orlando. Nunes joined the club after stints in Europe with Aston Villa, Levante UD, and Madrid CFF.
Barbra Banda Details Her Time in the NWSL
Orlando Pride forward Barbra Banda signed a new contract with the club through the 2029 season and she spoke on how she’s grown as a player since joining the league in 2024.
“Honestly, I’ve learned a lot from this league. I would say it’s one of the best leagues in the world because the teams are so competitive, and you never go into a game relaxed,” Banda said. “You need to up your game each and every time. You need to be mentally fit, physically fit. It’s a battle you need to win, and you have to be smart at the end of the day. I feel I’ve learned a lot, and I’ve improved myself in so many ways. And, not forgetting my teammates, who have helped me to improve, and the technical staff as well. I can feel it myself, this level, it’s different.”
Banda has been phenomenal for the Pride, scoring 41 goals in 62 appearances across all competitions and helping the club win the double in her first year in the league. She’s been one of the best strikers in the league’s history, and it’s great to see her sticking around in the City Beautiful.
U.S. Eliminated From U-20 Women’s World Cup
The United States U-20 Women’s National Team drew 1-1 against Brazil but lost in the ensuing penalty shootout in the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup’s round of 16. Brazil took the lead in the 59th minute off of a corner kick, but the U.S. equalized in the 63rd minute, thanks to a strike from Seattle Reign midfielder Ainsley McCammon. The Yanks made four of their attempts in the shootout, but Brazil ultimately prevailed by making all five. It’s a tough way to exit the tournament for the U.S., which was matched up against Brazil in the knockout stage after finishing third in its group.
