PawedCast Episode 356: Seattle Rewind, The Beautiful Game, and More
A look back at a road draw vs. the Sounders and a legends exhibition match that rabid fans ruined.
Orlando City completed a three-games-in-eight-days gauntlet, finishing with a transcontinental trip to play the Seattle Sounders. Although the Lions played well in the match and created chances, they were ultimately undone by a lack of finishing once again as Mauricio Pereyra’s empty-net sitter sailed over the crossbar from about eight yards out and Stefan Frei made some good saves to deny Duncan McGuire and Facundo Torres. Pedro Gallese had little to do at the other end but stopped the few chances that the hosts put on frame.
It was a good, yet simultaneously frustrating, result.
We give our thoughts on the game, touch on Mikey Halliday’s apparent hamstring injury, and make our selections for Man of the Match.
We obviously checked our mailbagbox to see what’s on your mind. Remember, if there’s anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC.
We briefly touched on OCB’s busy schedule in the coming week before diving into a discussion about The Beautiful Game, a legends match at Exploria Stadium on Friday night that was cut short due to weather and misbehaving fans who refused to stay off the field of play. What can MLS and security teams around the country learn from this game for when Lionel Messi arrives? We discuss both the entertaining aspect of the game, Nani’s return to Orlando, and why people think it’s OK to disrupt sporting events and ruin it for everyone else.
Here’s how No. 356 went down:
0:15 – Orlando City did everything right except score a goal in Seattle. The Lions still haven’t beaten the Sounders at Lumen Field, but they have taken four out of six points in the last two meetings overall.
18:18 – Mailbagbox time and a quick peek at the upcoming OCB schedule.
33:50 – The Beautiful Game lived up to its name until it didn’t.

SkoPurp Soccer Episode 138: Current Rewind, Portland Preview, Barbra Banda’s New Deal, and More
A draw in KC, a new deal for Barbra Banda, and a visit from the Thorns.
For a good chunk of Friday night, it seemed as though the Orlando Pride would make it two wins in two matches under interim head coach Yolanda Thomas. Barbra Banda produced two moments of brilliance to stake Orlando to a 2-0 road lead. But the leaky Pride defense re-emerged, giving up two quick goals that indicated the hosts might come back to claim all three points. However, Orlando did just enough to get over the finish line, hold onto a point, and remain unbeaten in the Current’s stadium.
We break down the road draw, check back to see what our predictions were, and make our picks for Player of the Match.
We also discussed Banda’s new contract that will keep her in the City Beautiful through 2029. It’s a big fish for Caitlin Carducci to land (and to build around), and it should be the first domino to fall in Orlando’s rebuild as the club tries to return to competing for trophies.
This week’s mailbagbox asked about the Pride’s best back line, coaches, and more. Finally, we looked ahead to Saturday’s showdown with the Portland Thorns. The Pride return home to face one of the league’s bluebloods, and every point is precious with as much ground as Orlando has to make up to try to keep its playoff streak alive. We give you the series history, the tale of the tape, our key matchups, and our score predictions.

Here’s how Episode 138 went down:
0:15 – It’s a road point against a good team but the way it unfolded felt like more of a loss than a win when the Pride drew Kansas City. Plus, three more years of Bandamonium!
21:01- The mailbagbox asks about coaching search philosophies, and who else might lose their jobs around the NWSL.
31:59 – The Pride and Thorns prepare for battle on Saturday.

SkoPurp Soccer Episode 137: Houston Rewind, Current Preview, and More
The Pride get a win in their first game under Yolanda Thomas and now head to KC.
For one night (at least) the Orlando Pride resembled the 2024 team. The Pride played with energy, grit, and purpose in a 3-1 win over the visiting Houston Dash in a weather-delayed Sunday night tilt over Labor Day weekend, with interim head coach Yolanda Thomas getting a victory in her first match in charge. It was far from a perfect performance, but just playing with the spirit the team displayed on Sunday would keep this team in most games and give it a chance to win. Barbra Banda was a major factor in all three Orlando goals, forcing an own goal, scoring a penalty, and setting up Haley McCutcheon’s impressive strike. Cosette Morche came up with a few huge saves on the other end to preserve the lead.
We break down the match as fully re-energized spectators and podcasters after seeing that performance, look back at our score predictions, and make our picks for Player of the Match.
This week’s mailbagbox asked about coaches, points necessary for Thomas to get the full-time job offer, a women’s U.S. Open Cup, and more. Finally, we looked ahead to Friday’s visit to Kansas City as the Pride play the return fixture against the Current. Prior to Houston, the Current were the last team Orlando had scored multiple goals against. If the Pride can play with the fire they showed against the Dash, they could be a threat to be the first visiting team to win in CPKC Stadium in 2026.

Here’s how Episode 137 went down:
0:15 – The Pride win their first game under Yolanda Thomas and play like they have something to prove, which…they do.
21:56 – The mailbagbox advises against putting any one person over the club.
43:52 – The second meeting with Kansas City is Friday, and the Pride will hope to play as well as they did in the first meeting.

PawedCast Episode 550: San Diego Rewind, Atlanta and Toronto Previews, OCB-Inter Miami II, and More
The Lions win their first-ever meeting with San Diego FC and hit more fixture congestion with Atlanta and Toronto this week.
Orlando City met San Diego FC for the first time on Saturday. The Lions needed to come away with all three points at home in a tight race in the Eastern Conference, and Antoine Griezmann’s first-half goal made sure they did just that. It wasn’t always the prettiest game, and Orlando should definitely have scored more than once, but a win at this stage of the season is valuable regardless of how it comes. We break down the key moments and players, look back at our score predictions, and make our selections for Man of the Match.
Our mailbagbox asked us about Luis Otavio, Chris Mueller, and more. Remember, if there’s anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC, or hitting us up on Bluesky Social with that same hashtag.
After the mailbagbox, we discuss OCB’s road win over Inter Miami II and look ahead to Sunday’s meeting with Toronto FC II. The Young Lions have just two games left and a lot of work to do to finish above the playoff line. Were the last two games a momentary blip or an actual trend? We’ll find out over the next two weeks.
Finally, we look ahead to two opponents this week. The Lions must travel to rival Atlanta in the midweek before coming home to host Toronto. Both teams have played better recently, and nothing is ever easy in MLS. We look at the series history for both opponents, review the tale of the tape(s), provide our key matchups, and make our final score predictions.

Here’s how No. 550 went down:
0:15 – Orlando City might have learned something from the four-minute defensive lapse at Minnesota, because the Lions gave San Diego nothing on Saturday.
21:21 – The mailbagbox gets player specific this week.
33:07 – OCB crushes Inter Miami II, and the senior Lions have two quick turnarounds with games at Atlanta and at home against Toronto FC. We’ve got your previews.
