Orlando City and Orlando Pride players on Team of the Week, USMNT Gold Cup continues, and more.

Welcome to Wedn…er…Tuesday, Mane Landers. That’s right, I’m here a day early and not a moment too late. Orlando is knee deep in soccer, thanks to the FIFA Club World Cup on top of our favorite Orlando City and Orlando Pride clubs. We will have coverage of the matches taking place in the City Beautiful. Before we get started today, join us in wishing a happy 25th birthday to Orlando Pride midfielder Summer Yates. Now, let’s get to the links.
Schlegel Honored
Rodrigo Schlegel had a pretty good match against the Colorado Rapids. Despite not being named Man of the Match in our Player Grades, he did make the MLS Team of the Week bench. Meanwhile, Orlando held steady at the ninth spot in ESPN’s MLS Power Rankings, while dropping two spots from seventh to ninth in SI.com’s Power Rankings despite winning on the road. It just shows how very accurate and scientific power rankings are, doesn’t it?
Quadruple Honors for the Pride
The Orlando Pride saw Schlegel’s TotW Bench honor and said we can do better. Barbra Banda, Cori Dyke, Emily Sams, and Anna Moorhouse all made the NWSL Team of the Week from the Attacking Third. Congratulations to the Pride for covering a third of the Attacking Third’s selections.
Moorhouse is also up for Player of the Week and Save of the Week. As of this morning, she is not leading either category so you know what to do.
The USMNT Gold Cup Journey Continues
The Concacaf Gold Cup group stage is underway, with the USMNT securing a 5-0 victory over Trinidad & Tobago Sunday evening. I’m always for beating Trinidad & Tobago, but more talented teams and tougher matches lie ahead. Next up for the USMNT is Saudi Arabia. I know what you’re thinking, and you’re correct. Saudi Arabia isn’t a Concacaf nation, but the team is the invitee for this Gold Cup. The match is Thursday night at 9:15 p.m. at Q2 Stadium in Austin, TX. The U.S. will most likely need a win to secure the top spot in the group.
FIFA Club World Cup Results
The Club World Cup, which will visit Orlando’s Inter&Co Stadium later today (we’ll be on hand with the coverage, naturally), continued early this week with Bayern Munich obliterating Auckland City 10-0, PSG defeating Atletico Madrid 4-0, Botafogo beating the Seattle Sounders 2-1, and Facundo Torres and Palmeiras drawing Porto 0-0 on Sunday. In the Monday slate, Chelsea defeated LAFC 2-0, and Boca Juniors and Benfica drew 2-2. Overshadowing all of this is the poor attendance, despite FIFA spending millions to boost said attendance.

- One might think that a club sitting second in the official standings on a three-match winning streak would have matching ranks in all the various power rankings. However, one would be wrong, because although the Pride are in the second spot in the SI.com Power Rankings, the club sits at third in the ESPN.com Power Rankings. Do I need to say anything?
- You don’t often see Barcelona get passed over for an MLS club, but that is exactly what happened despite Barcelona calling FIFA to get a spot in the Club World Cup. That MLS club was LAFC, and it had to earn its way in by beating Club America.
- Liverpool has set a date for the medical for Florian Wirtz following the record transfer.
- Congratulations to Orlando City’s Alex Freeman on his performance in his first cap for the USMNT in a competitive match.
That will do it for today. Check back as we get you ready for the matches this week. Vamos Orlando!

Lions draw against CF Montreal, Pride players in action abroad, OCB wins, and more.

Hello, Mane Landers! I hope all is well with you in Florida. I’ve been keeping myself busy at work. Our Lions and OCB were both in action over the weekend. We’ve got plenty to cover today, so let’s get to the links.
Lions Drop Points in Home Draw against CF Montreal
Orlando City picked up a 1-1 draw against CF Montreal on Saturday at Inter&Co Stadium. The Lions got off to a good start in the first half as Martin Ojeda scored the opening goal. In the second half, defender Kyle Smith came off the bench and became the second player in club history to make 200 appearances for the club across all competitions.
However, Orlando was unable to hold onto the lead as Rodrigo Schlegel fouled Prince Owusu, and Montreal was awarded a penalty kick late in the second half. Owusu buried his shot from the spot to tie the match as the teams split the points. Orlando is winless in its last three matches and dropped to sixth in the Eastern Conference standings with 35 points. Orlando City will face New York City FC Wednesday at Inter&Co Stadium.
Pride Players in Women’s AFCON, Euros, and Copa America
Orlando Pride forwards Barbra Banda and Prisca Chilufya were in action for Zambia in their final group stage match in the 2025 Women’s African Cup of Nations against Congo DR over the weekend. Grace Chanda did not play, but Zambia defeated Congo 1-0 with a goal from Bay FC forward Racheal Kundananji to book a spot in the quarterfinals.
Zambia finished second in the group behind host Morocco on goal difference with seven points. The Copper Queens will take on Nigeria Friday in the quarterfinals at Stade Larbi Zaouli. On Sunday, England crushed Wales 6-1 in the third match of the group stage in the 2025 UEFA Women’s Euros in Switzerland. Orlando Pride goalkeeper Anna Moorhouse was on the bench. England finished second in its group and will face Sweden Thursday in the quarterfinals. Lastly, Brazil was in action Sunday in the group stage of the 2025 Copa America Feminina against Venezuela. Orlando Pride forward Marta and midfielder Angelina played as Brazil defeated Venezuela 2-0.
OCB Beats Carolina Core FC at Home
Orlando City B beat Carolina Core FC 3-1 Sunday at Osceola County Stadium. The Young Lions struck first with a goal from Justin Ellis. OCB held onto the lead through halftime. In the second half, Orlando City B won a penalty kick, and Ellis converted to give the Young Lions a 2-0 lead. Carolina Core FC scored to pull within one, but Thalles scored his first goal for OCB late in the second half to clinch the three points. OCB won its first home match since June 6 and remains unbeaten in its last three matches. The Young Lions will be on the road to face New England Revolution II Sunday at Gillette Stadium.
Chelsea Wins the FIFA Club World Cup
Chelsea defeated Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 to win the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup Sunday at MetLife Stadium. Chelsea dominated PSG in the first half, as Cole Palmer scored twice and Joao Pedro added one. Palmer also assisted on Pedro’s goal. Palmer scored three goals and recorded two assists throughout the competition and won the Best Player of the Tournament Award. Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez won the Golden Glove Award as the best goalkeeper in the tournament. Paris Saint-Germain forward Desire Doue won the Best Young Player Award, and Real Madrid forward Gonzalo Garcia won the Golden Boot, scoring four goals in the tournament.

That will do it for me today, Mane Landers. Enjoy your Monday, and I’ll see you next time.

Storylines ahead of Orlando City’s match with CF Montreal, Mia Fishel signs with Seattle Reign FC, D.C. United coach Troy Lesesne fired, and more.

Happy Friday! The weekend is nearly here, which means it’s almost time to pack Inter&Co Stadium to enjoy some Orlando City soccer. It should be a nice next few days, and I’m hoping I can catch the new Superman movie at some point if the crowds aren’t too crazy. Let’s get to the links!
Storylines Ahead of Orlando City’s vs. Montreal
Orlando City takes on CF Montreal Saturday, and there’s plenty to watch for as the Lions aim to get back in the win column. Martin Ojeda has had a goal contribution in six straight matches, while fellow Designated Player Marco Pasalic is one of three MLS newcomers with double-digit goals so far this season. The Lions will be without Pedro Gallese and Robin Jansson due to yellow card accumulation, although right back Alex Freeman is back from international duty. Orlando is unbeaten in its past five matches against Montreal, including a scoreless draw in Canada on April 19.
Seattle Reign FC Signs Mia Fishel
American forward Mia Fishel made the move to the NWSL, signing a contract with the Seattle Reign through the 2029 season. She was drafted by the Orlando Pride with the fifth overall pick in the 2022 NWSL Draft, but opted to join Tigres in Mexico instead of coming to the City Beautiful. The 24-year-old has spent the past two seasons with Chelsea and should get more playing time in a Seattle offense that could use a dynamic player like her. Fishel and the Reign will be in Orlando to take on the Pride on Nov. 2, adding another wrinkle to the Decision Day match.
D.C. United Fires Troy Lesesne
Troy Lesesne was fired as D.C. United’s head coach Thursday, with assistant coach Zach Prince leaving the club as well. This decision comes while D.C. United is 12th in the Eastern Conference and just lost to Nashville SC in the U.S. Open Cup quarterfinals. Academy Director Kevin Flanagan will take over as the interim head coach, but the club has reportedly agreed to terms with Swiss manager Rene Weiler as a replacement.
Switzerland and Norway Advance to Euro Quarterfinals
Switzerland booked its spot in the 2025 Women’s European Championship quarterfinals in dramatic fashion against Finland. The game was a scoreless affair until Finland took the lead in the 79th minute, but Riola Xhemaili scored an equalizer in stoppage time for the host nation to secure a 1-1 draw. Norway advanced after a 4-3 win over Iceland, with Signe Gaupset scoring twice and assisting on both of Frida Maanum’s goals. Iceland rallied late but finished the tournament without a win.
Today’s action includes a solid matchup between Italy and Spain for the top spot in the group. Meanwhile, Portugal and Belgium will mostly be playing for pride, although Portugal could sneak into the quarterfinals depending on how goal differential shakes out.

- Former Lion Heine Bruseth was loaned from San Diego FC to Sarpsborg 08 in Norway’s top flight. The 21-year-old was taken from Orlando City in the 2024 MLS Expansion Draft but has yet to make his debut for San Diego.
- American attacker Tobin Heath officially announced her retirement from professional soccer. Over the course of her 17-year career, Heath won two Women’s World Cups, two Olympic gold medals, and two NWSL Championships with the Portland Thorns.
- Atlanta United released a statement that President Garth Lagerway was diagnosed with cancer and that the prognosis of a complete recovery is encouraging. He will take an indefinite leave of absence as well.
- Austin FC forward Brandon Vazquez will miss the rest of the season after tearing his ACL in the club’s U.S. Open Cup game against the San Jose Earthquakes. The injury throws a wrench into his chances of making the USMNT’s World Cup roster.
- During this year’s MLS All-Star Week, the league will host a Future of the Games Showcase that will show off new technology regarding player performance and better fan experiences.
That’s all I have for you this time around. I hope you all have a fantastic Friday and a great weekend!

Orlando City prepares for CF Montreal, Barbra Banda scores twice in win for Zambia, Americans selected for Gold Cup Best XI, and more.

How’s it going, Mane Landers? It’s been a hectic week for me, but I’m looking forward to some rest and relaxation once the weekend gets here. Hopefully the rest of the week goes easy on all of you as well. Let’s dive into today’s links from around the soccer world!
Orlando City Prepares for CF Montreal
Orlando City will host CF Montreal Saturday, and the Lions enter this match looking to build on their ability to claw their way back to a 2-2 draw on the road against Charlotte FC. It should be a good opportunity for points, as Montreal has only won three games all season. However, two of those wins were in Montreal’s past four games, while Orlando hasn’t won at home since May 24. Orlando City Head Coach Oscar Pareja spoke on the team’s preparations heading into this match, as well as how right back Alex Freeman is settling in after returning from the Gold Cup.
Banda Leads Zambia Past Senegal at Africa Cup of Nations
Orlando Pride forward Barbra Banda scored a brace for Zambia in a 3-2 win over Senegal in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations group stage. She scored in both halves, with Bay FC’s Racheal Kundananji scoring as well. Pride players Grace Chanda and Prisca Chilufya also started for Zambia. With the win, Zambia now has four points from its first two games and will face a DR Congo team that was eliminated after a 4-2 loss to Morocco.
Americans Land On Concacaf Gold Cup Best XI
Although the United States Men’s National Team didn’t lift the Concacaf Gold Cup trophy in the end, the Yanks had a solid tournament, and Chris Richards, Diego Luna, and Malik Tillman were selected to the Best XI of the tournament. Richards did well on both sides of the ball, holding things down defensively and scoring two important goals. Midfielders Luna and Tillman each recorded three goals and two assists over the course of the Gold Cup. Mexico had five players make the Best XI, while Panama’s Ismael Diaz earned recognition after scoring six goals.
Paris Saint-Germain Advances to Club World Cup Final
The Club World Cup final is set, after Paris Saint-Germain put Real Madrid to the sword Wednesday in a 4-0 win at MetLife Stadium. Fabian Ruiz and Ousmane Dembele both scored in the first 10 minutes of the match, with Ruiz securing a brace later in the first half. The defense did well to shut out a Madrid team loaded with attacking talent, and Goncalo Ramos put a bow on the victory with a late goal. It’s been a phenomenal year for PSG and the French club will take on Chelsea in the final Sunday at 3 p.m.

- Former Lion Mauricio Pereyra was spotted at Orlando City’s training. He’s supposedly only visiting, but I’m personally not ruling anything out after Junior Urso’s brief return to the City Beautiful in 2023.
- There’s yet another American forward to watch in the EFL Championship, as Southampton has signed Damion Downs. The 20-year-old signed a four-year contract with the club and heads to England after scoring 11 goals for FC Koln last season.
- The U.S. Open Cup quarterfinal between the Philadelphia Union and New York Red Bulls was postponed to Aug. 13 due to severe weather.
- England got back on track at the Women’s Euros by beating the Netherlands 4-0, with Lauren James netting a brace. France then breezed past Wales in a 4-1 win, but Welsh Seattle Reign midfielder Jess Fishlock made history by scoring her country’s first-ever goal at the Women’s Euros.
- Lyon will remain in Ligue 1 after winning its appeal against relegation for financial issues.
- Reggie Cannon won his appeal against Boavista and is owed $468,000, concluding the defender’s two-year battle with the Portuguese club over late payments.
That’s all I have for you for today’s links. I hope you all have a great Thursday and rest of your week!
