PawedCast Episode 501: Miami Rewind, Galaxy Preview, OCB Hosts Crown Legacy, and More

A night of insane officiating helps usher the Lions out of Leagues Cup contention with a third-place game remaining.

Just days after The Mane Land PawedCast celebrated its 500th episode, it is the 500th show for one of your hosts, while the other is inching ever closer to that same number, although he’s got a way to go. Regardless of how many shows we’ve published or how many times we’ve hosted, it likely pales in comparison to the number of calls Inter Miami has gotten or will get during the Lionel Messi era.

Those types of calls marred what had been a masterful road gameplan for an hour and a quarter, helping turn the game around in Inter Miami’s favor and pushing the Herons into the Leagues Cup final. Florida might be purple, but officiating crews these days tend to be pink.

Orlando City is left to stew, swallow harsh words that could get the team fined, and prepare for a third-place match against the LA Galaxy. As some fans might not know, that game is important, because the winner of the consolation game gets a big prize — a spot in the Concacaf Champions Cup.

We break down a frustrating night for the Lions that was mostly (but not entirely) out of their control, look back at our score predictions, and make our selections for Man of the Match. Nope, it is not the referee or the video assistant referee, so don’t even think it. However, if this were an Inter Miami podcast, one of them would likely get the honor.

Big props to me for getting through the first segment without dropping any F-bombs!

This week’s mailbagbox asked about current Lion Adrian Marin, former Lion Cristian Higuita, and more. Remember, if there’s anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC, or hitting us up on Bluesky Social with that same hashtag.

OCB will look to build on its win last week against Atlanta United 2 when Crown Legacy visits Kissimmee on Sunday night. The Young Lions have worked their way down below the playoff line this summer, hung around, and now must claw their way back over the line just a tantalizing few points above them. A win Sunday would be a six-pointer, as Crown Legacy would also like to battle its way into the postseason.

Finally, we looked ahead to a Sunday night matchup on the road against the LA Galaxy in the third-place match of Leagues Cup. The winner gets a Concacaf Champions Cup. The winner gets nothing except more tired legs to recover from during the upcoming international break. We would like the former, but it won’t be easy against a Galaxy team that has played better in recent weeks and will not have traveled in a while. Orlando, meanwhile, was in Los Angeles just over a week ago to face Toluca, and this will be the club’s third match at Dignity Health Sports Park in 2025. We prepare you for the matchup with a look at the all-time series and who the Lions must watch out for in the Galaxy attack, provide our key matchups, and make our final score predictions. We expect it to be a tough task for Orlando on tired legs.

Here’s how No. 501 went down:

0:15 – Orlando City was doing OK throughout Wednesday night’s ref show until the third team on the field found its opening to help the Herons. We rant a bit, but with a purpose.

32:18 – The mailbagbox wasn’t flooded with hate, as we expected, and that made it easier to put Wednesday in the past.

42:17 – A critical match for OCB looms, and the Lions will try again to qualify for continental play.

PawedCast Episode 532: Montreal Rewind, Philly and Atlanta Previews, OCB, and More

The Lions laid an egg in Canada and must now regroup for two home games against Eastern Conference rivals.

Orlando City seemed to be turning a corner. It turned out that there was a moving truck just around that corner and it flattened the Lions in stoppage time Saturday in Montreal. Just moments away from a road point and a rare clean sheet, despite being outplayed for much of the 90 minutes, Orlando City imploded and conceded twice for yet another multi-goal road loss in a 2026 already filled with them.

We break down the latest OCSC loss, look back at our score predictions, and begrudgingly make our selections for Man of the Match. The good vibes from the Miami comeback win did not last long at all.

Our mailbagbox asked us about Ted Lasso haircuts and Justin Ellis. Remember, if there’s anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC, or hitting us up on Bluesky Social with that same hashtag.

After the mailbagbox, we discussed Orlando City B’s 2-0 win at Atlanta United 2 and looked ahead to the Young Lions’ upcoming match with New England Revolution 2. That previous sentence included a lot of instances of the numeral 2.

Finally, we looked ahead to two Orlando City matches coming up this week. First up is the Philadelphia Union on Wednesday, followed by Atlanta United on Saturday. Both Eastern Conference rivals are coming to Orlando, so the Lions will be on home soil, and hopefully that means we won’t see them in their Sunken Playoff Hopes Treasure kits.

We look at the series history against both clubs, check out their relative places in the standings (they are the two closest teams to Orlando City in the Eastern Conference), provide our key matchups, and make our final score predictions for both matches.

Here’s how No. 532 went down:

0:15 – The Lions picked the wrong time to stop scoring goals against a very meh Montreal team.

18:26 – Our mailbagbox wants to work a little Isaac McAdoo haircut magic.

24:36 – OCB managed a shutout win and we look ahead to two matches that under normal circumstances we would say were “winnable.” These are not normal circumstances.

SkoPurp Soccer Episode 122: Courage Rewind, Boston and Denver Previews, and More

The Pride won another tight game and must now go face both NWSL expansion sides on the road.

The Orlando Pride snapped their two-game losing streak but it was anything but easy. The Pride struggled to convert chances until Barbra Banda struck in the 87th minute, while the team had a lot of defending to do against the Courage. The Pride did fine with that, however, keeping a clean sheet and fending off North Carolina long enough to capture all three points on a rainy night in Central Florida.

Even though Dave is on vacation, he checked in from the road so we could check our score predictions and see how well we anticipated the result; discuss the key moments, plays, and players; and make our selections for the player of the match.

This week’s mailbagbox asked about Temwa Chawinga, whether Banda scoring all the goals is a recipe for success, required reading that we enjoyed, and more. Remember, you can ask us anything by hitting us up on Twitter at either @TheManeLand or @SkoPurpSoccer and using the hashtag #AskSkoPurp. You can use that same hashtag and hit @TheManeLand.bsky.social up on Bluesky. Or you can visit our show page, scroll down, and fill out the handy form. We’d also appreciate any ratings or reviews you can leave wherever you get your podcasts, and if you do that on Apple Podcasts, we’ll find them easily and read them on the show.

After the mailbagbox, we look ahead to the team’s two matches on the road this week, with both of them new venues in the NWSL. First up, the Pride visits Boston Legacy FC tonight for the first time. We know so little about the expansion side, but Boston is in good form of late, so the Pride will need to play well to get a result. Without a series history to discuss, we get into the teams’ relative positions this season and offer up our key matchups and score predictions.

The Pride will head west to visit Denver Summit FC on Saturday, playing the league’s other expansion team for the second time ever and the first away from home. The teams played to a draw earlier this season in Orlando, but the Pride created enough chances to win easily. They’ll hope to get a better result at altitude on short rest. We visit the (brief) series history, discuss the matchup, and make our predictions.

Here’s how Episode 122 went down:

0:15 – Orlando got back in the win column even though it was far from convincing. The Pride will look to build on the victory over North Carolina with two matches this week against the NWSL’s newest teams.

14:10 – The mailbagbox is still a bit restless this week despite the victory.

25:53 – The Pride hit the road for two games that appear winnable on paper, but there is virtually no way those teams will play Orlando on paper.

Even a Barbra Banda brace couldn’t bag three points for the Pride vs. Washington.

The Orlando Pride lost their second straight game and once again a bad defensive few minutes and a lack of scorers not named Barbra Banda were largely to blame. Two goals conceded inside of the game’s first six minutes and a blown sitter combined to put Orlando well behind the 8-ball, and although the Pride rallied to tie the match by halftime, Washington was the better side in the second half and took all three of the available points.

We look back at our score predictions, discuss the key moments and players, and make our selections for the player of the match.

Our mailbagbox asked about Barbra Banda, Ally Lemos taking penalties, second-leading scorers vs. backup goalkeepers, and more. Remember, you can ask us anything by hitting us up on Twitter at either @TheManeLand or @SkoPurpSoccer and using the hashtag #AskSkoPurp. We’d also appreciate any ratings or reviews you can leave wherever you get your podcasts, and if you do that on Apple Podcasts, we’ll find them easily and read them on the show.

After the mailbagbox, we look ahead to the North Carolina Courage’s upcoming visit to Inter&Co Stadium on Friday night. The Pride need a bounce-back game (and a few healthy bodies), but it’s going to take a team effort for Orlando to beat a solid North Carolina squad. We look back at the series history, which has favored the Courage over the years, provide our key matchups, and make our final score predictions.

Here’s how Episode 121 went down:

0:15 – Much like last season, a loss at Louisville has turned into a skid for the Pride.

17:38 – The mailbagbox seems upset.

33:26 – The Pride host North Carolina looking to get back on the right track. How about just getting healthy?
