PawedCast Episode 274: Nani Departs, Orlando Pride News, and Roster Predictions

Published

Orlando City said goodbye to team captain Nani this past week, as the Lions declined to exercise the Portuguese talisman’s contract option. So the club will have at least two Designated Player slots open this off-season pending a decision on Mauricio Pereyra. The Lions will have a new captain in 2022 and we look back at Nani’s career in Orlando.

The club also made a new hire in adding Jarrod Dillon to the newly created position of president of business operations. The Wilf family is already showing a commitment to doing things a little differently in the front office. To that end, Amanda Duffy is no longer with the Orlando Pride, but the Pride may be closer to hiring a new head coach — one that has a history of success and is quite familiar with the city of Orlando.

We also did our annual roster predictions. This season we actually know most of the contract statuses of the players, so we might not get quite as many wrong, but there are still some unknowns and that always makes things dicey. We go player-by-player through both the Orlando City and Orlando Pride rosters to try to determine who will be on the roster when the 2022 season arrives.

This week’s mailbag asked about the best way to watch the films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This is a question right up Dave Rohe’s alley and it turns out we’re on the same page. If there’s anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the next show, just ask by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC.

That’s all for this week and we’re definitely taking next week off barring something unforeseen, because I’ll be traveling.

Stay safe and enjoy the show!

Here’s how No. 274 went down:

0:15 – Orlando City will have a new captain in 2022 and at least one new Designated Player, if not more. Plus, lots of Pride and front office news.

31:49 – We go through the Orlando City and Pride rosters, discuss the contracts, and try to determine which players will stay and which will go.

PawedCast Episode 527: Crew Rewind, USOC and Houston Previews, OCB, and More

A look back at the Lions’ draw in Columbus, OCB’s loss at Chattanooga, and previews of the FC Naples and Houston games.

The Lions finished off their three-game road trip, and while the 1-1 draw against the Crew in Columbus wasn’t a rousing success, it was light years ahead of the 5-0 loss at Nahsville and the 6-0 loss at LAFC. Returning players made a big difference and scoring the first goal was helpful as well, allowing the Lions to stop some of the bleeding and earn their first road point.

We look back at the key players and moments in the match, check back on our score predictions, and make our selections for Man of the Match.

Our mailbagbox was loaded up with questions about Ricardo Moriera, Orlando City’s roster needs, a Freaky Friday-type life swap situation, and much more. Remember, if there’s anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC, or hitting us up on Bluesky Social with that same hashtag.

After the mailbagbox, we touched on OCB’s 3-1 loss at Chattanooga FC and looked ahead to the Young Lions’ matchup Sunday against Carolina Core.

Finally, we looked ahead to a pair of upcoming Orlando City games this week. The Lions will play USL League One opponent FC Naples on the road Wednesday to start their 2026 U.S. Open Cup run. We’re not going to pretend to know a lot about the club, but it is currently first in the table and it’s both a winnable and loseable game. The second match takes place Saturday at home, when the Houston Dynamo visit. We look back at the series history, check out how the two sides measure up in the league, discuss our key matchups for the game, and make our predictions for the final score.

Here’s how No. 527 went down:

0:15 – Robin Jansson’s return was noticeable and so was his departure from the match on Sunday in Columbus.

24:45 – Our mailbagbox is chock full this week. We’re up to the challenge.

56:08 – OCB happenings, the Lions head south to take on FC Naples in U.S. Open Cup play, and the Houston Dynamo visit on Saturday.

SkoPurp Soccer Episode 118: Angel City Rewind and the International Break is Here

The Pride enter the international break on a good run of form after beating Angel City at home.

Angel City FC entered Inter&Co Stadium without a loss on the 2026 season. The Los Angeles-based club left Inter&Co Stadium with one loss on the 2026 season. That’s mainly because Haley McCutcheon turned vulture just a few feet in front of the Angel City net. The veteran midfielder scored on two shots that traveled about a combined six feet, ending what could have otherwise been a frustrating night on a high note.

The Pride scored late, conceded later, and retook the lead even later than that on the way to a 2-1 home win over former Orlando defender Emily Sams’ new team in a match that saw two would-be Pride goals not count. The first was offside and the second was for a push, but the other two counted despite nervy reviews.

We look back at a solid performance against a good Angel City side, checked our score predictions (one of us nailed it), and made our picks for Player of the Match. Several players performed well, but it was an easy pick in the end.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t all good for the Pride, as both Jacquie Ovalle and Oihane left the match with injuries.

Our mailbagbox had questions about starters on the back line, memes, NWSL referees, and more. Remember, you can ask us anything by hitting us up on Twitter at either @TheManeLand or @SkoPurpSoccer and using the hashtag #AskSkoPurp. You can use that same hashtag and hit @TheManeLand.bsky.social up on Bluesky. Or you can visit our show page, scroll down, and fill out the handy form. We’d also appreciate any ratings or reviews you can leave wherever you get your podcasts, and if you do that on Apple Podcasts, we’ll find them easily and read them on the show.

With the international break upon us, we touched on the USWNT’s upcoming matches against Japan briefly before wrapping up the show.

Here’s how Episode 118 went down:

0:15 – Angel City’s perfect record is over, thanks to Haley McCutcheon and the Pride.

18:16 – The Mailbagbox brings some snark this week as the listeners weren’t fans of the officiating Friday.

37:42 – The international break is here, so it’ll be a minute before the Pride resume the regular season at Racing Louisville.

PawedCast Episode 526: LAFC Rewind, Columbus Crew Preview, and More

The Lions get put on full blast again and will finish their three-game road trip looking to avoid further embarrassment in Columbus.

The Lions may have traveled to Los Angeles, but they never showed up. LAFC became the latest team to demolish Orlando City in a 6-0 beatdown that was difficult to watch. We spoke a little about the match but mostly about the state of Orlando City six games into a 2026 season that has begun worse than anyone could have imagined. Historically bad somehow doesn’t cover it. We looked back at what we thought were pessimistic score predictions that came up well short of reality, and we selected a Man of the Match by the process of elimination.

Our mailbagbox offered no respite from this series of lopsided losses, but our listeners did ask about nicknames and what (if any) impact Antoine Griezmann could have made on the season to date had he arrived before opening day. Remember, if there’s anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC, or hitting us up on Bluesky Social with that same hashtag.

After the mailbagbox, we briefly touched on the tale of the tape for OCB’s upcoming match at Chattanooga. The two sides seem evenly matched heading into their head-to-head matchup.

Finally, we looked ahead to Sunday’s Orlando City match at Columbus. We gave the series history between the Lions and Crew, looked at the key matchups, and did our best to predict the final score. We remain pessimistic and probably will do so until Orlando City shows some signs of life.

Here’s how No. 526 went down:

0:15 – LAFC devoured Orlando City like it was an all-you-can-eat buffet.

27:59 – Our mailbagbox is no comfort from another stinging loss, but it is fun.

38:34 – The Crew are coming off their first win of 2026 and have to be eager to get at Orlando’s leaky defense.
