PawedCast Episode 441: Orlando City Signings, OCB-NYCFC II, Sporting Kansas City Preview, and More

An odd transfer window comes to an end, the Young Lions are back in the win column, and a look ahead to SKC.

Orlando City returns to MLS action Saturday night, but before we get to that, there was a flurry of new signings since our last show. The club only picked up one new player and signed two players already with the club to new deals. We discuss the signings of Yutaro Tsukada, Heine Gikling Bruseth, and Duncan McGuire. The latter feels like the biggest signing of the three, considering he was one incorrect mouse click from being with Blackburn for this season.

The Young Lions of OCB found their scoring boots and got a big game from Tsukada, who was no doubt celebrating his new contract with the first team. Yutaro provided a goal and an assist as OCB defeated New York City FC II 3-1 in a chippy match that saw a lot of cards fly. Jhon Solis and Shak Mohammed scored the other goals for the Young Lions, who are still in the playoff race but face an important test tonight on the road at Atlanta United 2.

This episode’s mailbagbox asks us which center back pairing we expect for Saturday’s Orlando City match and which pairing we’d play if we made the decisions. There was also a question about Dagur Dan Thorhallsson’s place on Iceland’s national team. Remember, if there’s anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC, or hitting us up on Bluesky Social with that same hashtag.

After the mailbagbox, we looked ahead to the Lions’ trip to Kansas City Saturday night. Sporting has been bad this season but recently has had a great run of form at home. Children’s Mercy Park is a difficult place to play and Orlando will need to find some goals to get back to the form it had prior to Leagues Cup. We provide our key matchups and score predictions.

Here’s how No. 441 went down:

0:15 – Orlando City’s strange transfer window included three signings but only one player new to the team. Plus, an OCB win at home.

25:06 – The mailbagbox is concerned about various players on Orlando City’s back line.

39:07 – Key matchups and predictions for the Lions at Sporting Kansas City.

PawedCast Episode 445: Revolution Rewind, Charlotte Preview, OCB-New England, and More

Two shutout wins over New England in one weekend and a look ahead at Charlotte.

The Lions showed no rust from the week off in dispatching the New England Revolution 3-0 at home on Saturday. Three different Lions found the back of the net, from the unlikely (Rafael Santos) to the likely (Facundo Torres) to those who hadn’t done it in a while despite also being likely (Duncan McGuire). It was a complete team performance and one that the Lions can hopefully build upon as the competition gets considerably tougher this week with two big Eastern Conference matches.

We forgot to check our score predictions during the opening segment, but we do get there eventually. We did not, however, forget to make our selections for Man of the Match, an issue in which we were slightly divided, although neither was a more correct choice than the other.

OCB also defeated New England via shutout this week and we discuss Alex Freeman being on fire for the Young Lions, Jack Lynn adding another MLS NEXT Pro goal to his resume, and a second shutout of the Revs this weekend.

This episode’s mailbagbox asks us about Orlando City players who play alike, Heine Gikling Bruseth, and more. Remember, if there’s anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC, or hitting us up on Bluesky Social with that same hashtag.

After the mailbagbox, we look ahead to Charlotte FC, a team that is difficult to score against and one that has given Orlando City an inordinate amount of trouble in its brief time in Major League Soccer. As always, we provide our key matchups and score predictions for the game.

Here’s how No. 445 went down:

0:15 – Orlando City picked up its second consecutive 3-0 win at home and got its first season sweep of the Revs.

18:55 – OCB also beat New England this weekend and we discuss it before moving on to the mailbagbox.

37:15– Charlotte visits on Wednesday. We get you prepared.

Without an Orlando City game over the weekend, this week’s show opens with a discussion of Orlando City B’s much-needed 4-1 road victory over Crown Legacy FC. The Young Lions have only a few matches left and are sitting in a good position, with favorable matchups in two of their three remaining games. We discuss the win, Alex Freeman’s big night, and OCB’s outlook on the postseason.

This episode’s mailbagbox is all over the map, with questions about cars, holiday decorations, and Orlando City goal-scoring records. Remember, if there’s anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC, or hitting us up on Bluesky Social with that same hashtag.

After the mailbagbox, we touch on Mauricio Pochettino’s official hiring as the USMNT head coach. We then dive into a preview of Orlando City’s match against the New England Revolution at home on Saturday. We give you the tale of the tape, discuss the history of the series, provide our key matchups, and make our score predictions.

SkoPurp Soccer Episode 60: Chicago Rewind, Kansas City Preview, Pride Transactions, and More

Published

on

The Orlando Pride dominated statistically but got just enough offense to win on a Marta wonderstrike from outside the box in a 1-0 road win on Sunday against the Chicago Red Stars. Although the Pride kept Mallory Swanson quiet, Orlando needed a bit more sharpness in front of goal to open the game up. It never happened, but Marta’s NWSL Goal of the Week helped Orlando secure three more points on the road.

We broke down the game, checked back at our score predictions from last week, and made our selections for Player of the Match.

Our mailbagbox this week had concerns about whether Orlando should stay undefeated in the regular season, whether stoppage time is an issue, whether the soccer gods have an axe to grind with Barbra Banda, and whether Evelina Duljan should play more minutes with Banda. Remember, you can ask us anything by hitting us up on Twitter at either @TheManeLand or @SkoPurpSoccer and using the hashtag #AskSkoPurp. Or you can visit our show page, scroll down, and fill out the handy form. We’d also appreciate any ratings or reviews you can leave wherever you get your podcasts, and if you do that on Apple Podcasts, we’ll find them easily and read them on the show.

After the mailbagbox, we discussed Amanda Allen’s loan to Lexington, McKinley Crone’s new contract through 2026, and Banda’s recent scoring drought.

Finally, we look ahead to Orlando’s home match Friday against the Kansas City Current. The visitors will be looking for revenge from the first meeting and their perceived slights when Pride players were happy about the result in that match. We also provided our key matchups and score predictions for the game.

Here’s how Episode 60 went down:

0:15 – The Pride kept rolling with another clean sheet and a win at Chicago.

12:59 Our mailbagbox is chock full, as is our Orlando Pride news segment.

39:50 – Our preview of the rematch against the Kansas City Current, who totally won’t celebrate like crazy if they win after playing more than half the match a player down on the road. Honest.
