SkoPurp Soccer Episode 73: Marta Returns and an Interview with Director of Communications Jackie Maynard
After nine seasons, Jackie Maynard is leaving the club’s communications department. But at least we’ve still got Marta!
We’re in our off-season podcast schedule, which means things can be a bit unpredictable, except that you’ll get a new show at least monthly before the season starts back up. We didn’t have a ton of news, but circumstances warranted an episode, because we’re about to lose one of our favorite people.
After we discussed Orlando’s signing Monday afternoon of Wake Forest defender Zara Chavoshi, the first rookie signed since the NWSL did away with the draft, we have a special guest. Longtime Orlando City/Orlando Pride Director of Communications Jackie Maynard is leaving the club after nine seasons to take on a new challenge. She’s going out a champion, but she’s always been one in our book, as she’s been one of the best PR people on the MLS or NWSL side for years. She has set up so many of our interviews over the years and listened in on them, so it was only right that we let her take the microphone for herself before she leaves the City Beautiful.
Jackie discusses her career in Orlando, how the club and women’s soccer have evolved in her time here, some of the crazy, behind-the-scenes stuff she’s had to deal with on the road, and much more. Big thanks to Jackie for all her help through the years and our deepest wishes for success in the next step of the journey, which she is not at liberty to discuss publicly just yet as of this writing, but it’s a nice gig and we’re happy for her.
After our chat with Jackie, we dive into our mailbagbox, which asks us what position group we’d most like the Pride to address this off-season and makes us pick an over/under on Orlando goals in 2025. Remember, you can ask us anything by hitting us up on Twitter at either @TheManeLand or @SkoPurpSoccer and using the hashtag #AskSkoPurp. Or you can visit our show page, scroll down, and fill out the handy form. We’d also appreciate any ratings or reviews you can leave wherever you get your podcasts, and if you do that on Apple Podcasts, we’ll find them easily and read them on the show.
After the mailbagbox, we discuss the Pride re-signing team captain Marta for two more seasons. As the Brazilian soccer icon prepares for her 39th birthday, she also readies herself for the first season of a new two-year deal with Orlando that will likely see out her illustrious playing career. Marta was remarkable in 2024, helping her team win two trophies, and if she can keep playing at that level, she’s welcome here for as long as she likes.
Here’s how Episode 73 went down:
0:15 – The Pride add their first rookie since the NWSL dropped the draft. Welcome to Orlando, Zara Chavoshi!
8:14 – Jackie Maynard jumps on with us to discuss her nine-year career with Orlando City SC/Orlando Pride and we can’t thank her enough for her time on this show and her help throughout the years.
33:47 – We open up the mailbagbox and then discuss Marta’s return for two more seasons with Orlando.

SkoPurp Soccer Episode 138: Current Rewind, Portland Preview, Barbra Banda’s New Deal, and More
A draw in KC, a new deal for Barbra Banda, and a visit from the Thorns.
For a good chunk of Friday night, it seemed as though the Orlando Pride would make it two wins in two matches under interim head coach Yolanda Thomas. Barbra Banda produced two moments of brilliance to stake Orlando to a 2-0 road lead. But the leaky Pride defense re-emerged, giving up two quick goals that indicated the hosts might come back to claim all three points. However, Orlando did just enough to get over the finish line, hold onto a point, and remain unbeaten in the Current’s stadium.
We break down the road draw, check back to see what our predictions were, and make our picks for Player of the Match.
We also discussed Banda’s new contract that will keep her in the City Beautiful through 2029. It’s a big fish for Caitlin Carducci to land (and to build around), and it should be the first domino to fall in Orlando’s rebuild as the club tries to return to competing for trophies.
This week’s mailbagbox asked about the Pride’s best back line, coaches, and more. Remember, you can ask us anything by hitting us up on Twitter at either @TheManeLand or @SkoPurpSoccer and using the hashtag #AskSkoPurp. You can use that same hashtag and hit @TheManeLand.bsky.social up on Bluesky. Or you can visit our show page, scroll down, and fill out the handy form. We’d also appreciate any ratings or reviews you can leave wherever you get your podcasts, and if you do that on Apple Podcasts, we’ll find them easily and read them on the show.
Finally, we looked ahead to Saturday’s showdown with the Portland Thorns. The Pride return home to face one of the league’s bluebloods, and every point is precious with as much ground as Orlando has to make up to try to keep its playoff streak alive. We give you the series history, the tale of the tape, our key matchups, and our score predictions.

Here’s how Episode 138 went down:
0:15 – It’s a road point against a good team but the way it unfolded felt like more of a loss than a win when the Pride drew Kansas City. Plus, three more years of Bandamonium!
21:01- The mailbagbox asks about coaching search philosophies, and who else might lose their jobs around the NWSL.
31:59 – The Pride and Thorns prepare for battle on Saturday.

PawedCast Episode 551: Toronto Rewind, Crew and Revs Previews, OCB, and More
The Lions took care of Toronto and now face the Crew in USOC and the Revs on the road.
Orlando City picked up its second consecutive home shutout win and third win on the bounce, extending its unbeaten run in the process with a 3-0 blanking of Toronto FC on Saturday. It was an important win, as the Lions had to rotate some players to prepare for Wednesday’s U.S. Open Cup semifinal match at Columbus, and the kids were more than all right. So was Antoine Griezmann, who scored for the fifth consecutive match, leading to a halftime advantage. Harvey Sarajian and Ivan Angulo put the game to bed late, but there were other good opportunities and although they went wanting, so did all of Toronto’s chances.
We break down a solid home win over a streaking Toronto club, look back at our score predictions, and make our selections for Man of the Match.
Our mailbagbox asked us about Griezmann, our go-to, fast-casual Mexican food orders,Tiago, and more. Remember, if there’s anything — and we do mean anything — you want us to address on the show, just ask us by tweeting it to us at @TheManeLand with the hashtag #AskTMLPC, or hitting us up on Bluesky Social with that same hashtag.
After the mailbagbox, we discuss OCB’s home win over Toronto FC II on Sunday, in which Sarajian made it two straight nights with a goal in a professional soccer match. He chipped in an assist on Sunday for good measure as the Young Lions won 3-1 and climbed into a playoff position with one match remaining. OCB can finish anywhere from third to 11th in the Eastern Conference standings depending on Decision Day results Sunday, but a win over Atlanta United 2 would ensure a postseason berth.
Finally, we look ahead to two more opponents this week. The Lions will face the Crew on the road, where wins aren’t easy to come by. That game could lead to a home USOC final match if things go well, but the Crew have improved and will be a difficult out. The Lions will then proceed to New England to face a rejuvenated Revolution side that currently occupies third spot in the Eastern Conference. That match takes place in the house of horrors they call Gillette Stadium. We provide our key matchups and score predictions for the latter after reviewing the series history against both clubs.
Be sure to rate and review our show wherever you get your podcasts. Remember, we’ll read any five-star reviews we get on Apple Podcasts on the next show.

SkoPurp Soccer Episode 137: Houston Rewind, Current Preview, and More
The Pride get a win in their first game under Yolanda Thomas and now head to KC.
For one night (at least) the Orlando Pride resembled the 2024 team. The Pride played with energy, grit, and purpose in a 3-1 win over the visiting Houston Dash in a weather-delayed Sunday night tilt over Labor Day weekend, with interim head coach Yolanda Thomas getting a victory in her first match in charge. It was far from a perfect performance, but just playing with the spirit the team displayed on Sunday would keep this team in most games and give it a chance to win. Barbra Banda was a major factor in all three Orlando goals, forcing an own goal, scoring a penalty, and setting up Haley McCutcheon’s impressive strike. Cosette Morche came up with a few huge saves on the other end to preserve the lead.
We break down the match as fully re-energized spectators and podcasters after seeing that performance, look back at our score predictions, and make our picks for Player of the Match.
This week’s mailbagbox asked about coaches, points necessary for Thomas to get the full-time job offer, a women’s U.S. Open Cup, and more. Remember, you can ask us anything by hitting us up on Twitter at either @TheManeLand or @SkoPurpSoccer and using the hashtag #AskSkoPurp. We’d also appreciate any ratings or reviews you can leave wherever you get your podcasts, and if you do that on Apple Podcasts, we’ll find them easily and read them on the show.
Finally, we looked ahead to Friday’s visit to Kansas City as the Pride play the return fixture against the Current. Prior to Houston, the Current were the last team Orlando had scored multiple goals against. If the Pride can play with the fire they showed against the Dash, they could be a threat to be the first visiting team to win in CPKC Stadium in 2026.

Here’s how Episode 137 went down:
0:15 – The Pride win their first game under Yolanda Thomas and play like they have something to prove, which…they do.
21:56 – The mailbagbox advises against putting any one person over the club.
43:52 – The second meeting with Kansas City is Friday, and the Pride will hope to play as well as they did in the first meeting.
